127. Welcome back.

153. What's so lucky about it?

160. Aw, that's cute. When I was a child, I thought all of the families on television, like the Cosbys, were made up of actors related to each other. I used to think, "You know, for siblings, they don't really look alike."

166. Oh, my, he was a handsome actor. I still think he is good looking but wowzer, what pretty eyes.

167. How?

It took me until adolescence to realize the members of the Partridge Family weren't a real family. :(

Wow, so the fact that people have opinions that differ from yours means you wish death upon them? Just the kind of response I would expect from the self-righteous Kara/Lee fans.

Grow up, life will suck less when you can deal with things like an adult instead of a petulant child.

114. The main problem is that the SHRA was worded in such a way that very few people would actually want to sign up for it; it forced the heroes to sacrifice way too much with nothing in return to make it worth their while. So while the idea behind the SHRA might have been a good one (what Iron Man was defending), the execution of it was a gross violation of their civil liberties (what Cap was arguing). And then it just escalated beyond anyone's control.

117. I know, isn't he wonderful ♥

I love you for saying this. Thank you.

Inc angry, defensive comments from slash fans: "But she is a Mary Sue!", "I don't hate her because she's a woman, I hate her because she's shrewish/weak/bitchy.", "People outside of slash fandom hate female characters too", etc.

It's okay to not like every female character ever created. I don't. But when you're hating on them for no other reason beyond the fact that they are female, you have issues (and probably a lot of self-loathing). Plain and simple.

Also, I know that not all slash/yaoi fans are this way (I like slash/yaoi myself and know a lot of other women who do). But some are. If you're not like this, good on you.

Re: 103

[identity profile] luna-hoshino.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
This. And what sucks is that it makes it hard when you actually DO hate a female character for legit reasons, because people will automatically jump you and accuse you of being one of THOSE slash fans. Uh, no, I just happen to dislike that particular character, that's all. Thanks for ruining it for everyone else, guys.

101. I've heard this complaint about Pixar before, and I just don't get it. Are the female characters just TOO awesome for you? 8(

LOL@pretending Wall-E was about two lesbian robots though. I've been playing around with a similar idea, except Eve has become Steve. 8P

[identity profile] nuclearpez.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
101. well the only thing is that there aren't any prominently strong woman that are consistently strong/don't have to be saved. I'd say Elastagirl is like this but then she takes on the whole persona of the weak wife. But still, I find this to be the case with most mediums so I guess I don't particularly see this as a Pixar thing as much as a general problem in the representation of women in media in general?

[identity profile] annwyd.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
101. Well, I...like their female characters all right? The ones I've seen, anyway; there are a lot of Pixar movies I haven't seen. But I do agree it would be really nice if they'd have more female characters in non-romantic roles (wasn't there one in Finding Nemo? I didn't see that) instead of as the Spunky Love Interest, as fun as she can be.

103. You're going to get a lot of shit for phrasing that so strongly, but honestly, if you spend long enough in the worst parts of slash fandom, it's hard not to start feeling like that.

You might want to go hang out with femslashers for a while, though. A lot of them ship m/m as well sometimes, and while I make no claims for whether they are "smarter" or "cooler" than m/m slashers, I do find that they're less likely to have rage-inducing attitudes towards other women.

154. If this isn't a troll, h-how did such a touchy, insecure homophobe get onto [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets in the first place?

[identity profile] meganbmoore.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think I've ever seen a femslasher not also like the guys, including the ones the girl is canonically paired with. (If applicable.)

Well, except for Claymore. That fandom is...special.

101. You made me facepalm so hard that my brain went flying out the back of my head. OP, you owe me one new brain. (Elasi-Girl was one of the most interesting female characters of the past few years, as far as I'm concerned. In fact, I am looking for any indication that they somehow write detrimental or weakened characters. I love the movies, but I would like to hear arguments as such, because I'm interested in how other people see these movies.)

108. I can't even look at a picture of Tony Slattery without thinking of the "Bag Rap" and laughing hysterically. I guess it's this reason that I've always seen him as an oddly neuter character. I'll admit to thinking Josie Laurence incredibly cute, but Tony Slattery registers nothing at all for me. Hum.

119. Signed! To be honest, the only kind of zombie movies I can stomach are romantic comedy takeoffs. Well, and "The Serpent and the Rainbow," but that hardly counts.

123. First thoughts through my mind: "What show is that?" "She's a robot?" "Well, Summer Glau certainly has competition, doesn't she?" My mind takes me to odd places.

159/160. Kane and Tiffany's in a row! That's a hell of a one-two classics punch.

Re: 101

[identity profile] kristenell.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't speak for the OP but my criticism of Pixar stems not from that their female characters are weak, but rather in the majority of the films they take a backseat to the male characters, and the lack of lead characters being female in their films, their stories are for the most part very much centered around boys, even if they sometimes are given meaningful arcs.

101: What's wrong with Pixar's women?

106: Welcome to the dark side, lol. No, seriously, I love them but I agree they're more 'sweet' than epic.

143: The plotlines were a [i]tad[/i] ridiculous, but I appreciated that there was actual character growth, especially for Jacob.

157: I just worry that at this point trying to stick them together will feel too rushed. They have issues, there are reasons they've never worked as a couple before now, and with 4 episodes left they're going to work it all out? IDK, I'll wait and see.

I too, used to hate Ginny but ever since the 7th book came out my opinion completely flip-flopped. Ginny is an awesome character, it only took me 7 books to figure this out. Though I don't read H/G, I certainly don't reject the pairing anymore(I used to bash them so hard).
