Haha, though I ship Marluxia/Axel (mostly for the powerplay--when there's romance and fluff it's boring 8|), I totally agree. :( Almost all my friends talk about how gay he is all the time and I'm just so tired of having to defend him. I'm hoping they'll actually PLAY COM this time, now that it's "pretty" and figure out his characterization once and for all but knowing a lot of them... they'll just ignore it completely and continue seeing him as a flaming homo who throws flowers at people every chance he gets.

100% agree. I've grown to hate Harry Potter as anything other than bait for fics that are better than the books could ever be... but I still listen to the audiobooks, just for Dale.

165. My best friend thinks exactly the same (and btw he ADORES Orihime) and I'm starting to feel the same way about him, so you're not alone, OP. :S

Re: 165. OP

(Anonymous) 2009-02-26 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, thanks for sharing, it's good to hear. Actually, I like Orihime a lot more, too. I just find her thousand times more interesting as a character or as anything. Ichigo is like a broken record.

[identity profile] mojotmonkey.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
113. Oh, Kurapika. You silly trap.

126. l-lol. Sure, I ship it (*fan of the shota here*), but. Love? Not so much.

Also, lol anime. I see the Kuroshitsuji manga and anime as two very, very, very separate forms, and appreciate them both for what they are, but I try not to overlap them.

154. ...I don't think her drawings are killing your relationship. I think you LYING to her is what's doing it. If you don't like something your girlfriend is doing, tell her it bothers you. If she actually, you know, LIKES you, chances are she won't huff off.

And if she does, then you're both better off.

116. Though I know that was never going to happen - not even if it were a one-season dark-horse series back in the day, let alone the most popular sitcom of its time - I agree.

120. I remember using that diagram in nearly every cultural theory class I took in college and how it perpetuated white Western ideals of human appearance through space. And that aliens now think we have no naughty bits.

127. Jeremy Davies love! ♥ I was thinking of not watching the show anymore, but then I found out he would be on it and I kept watching, and I am so grateful I did because not only has the show itself gotten even more awesome, he's been a main factor to that awesomeness.

131. I remember there used to be a banner on AnimeMusicVideos.org (back when their fan-made banners were good) showing someone searching for all DBZ amvs made to Linkin Park songs, and it made me LOL forever.

145. Does that mean you've developed an ersatz homosexual relationship due to your fear of intimacy with the opposite sex? :P

164. I always feel like a betrayer of the original show but Angelica Houston will always be my favorite Morticia. It would have been pure heaven to see her act with John Astin instead of Raoul.

167. I spent much of last week's episode yelling at the TV "I waaaaaant you! You're so hot and geeky!" And he seriously does not look his age.

114. His prime idea was right, but the registration should have been optional and not forced. Imprisoning super heroes for helping people without registering was stupid. They should have put a stop to people potentially trying to get exposure via reality tv shows. It was pretty much one inexperienced super team that ruined it for everyone.

108

[identity profile] time-for-candy.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
108. HOLY SHIT, A WHOSE LINE SECRET THAT ISN'T "I SHIP RYAN/COLIN"! IT'S A MIRACLE!

Anyway. I really hate to be one of those tinhats who insist that the cast is all fucking each other IRL ('cause most of them are straight, married, uninterested in coworkers anyway, etc.), but I certainly wouldn't be surprised if John and Tony had a thing. It's definitely more likely than some of the other possibilities that people have brought up. (I once saw someone describe Tony as "being from the John Sessions school of heterosexuality." It took a while for that to register for me, but I couldn't help but lol once it did. Even if Tony hasn't come out/isn't really gay. I think he's probably bi, but in the end it's none of my business.)

And the John hate makes me sad too. :( I don't even like him all that much (except on QI, though he had his WLIIA moments. Occasionally.), but I don't think he was terrible like 99% of fandom seems to think! I think I'm just too much of a lovey-dovey "why can't we all just get along?" person.

Also, this secret excited me so much that I just skimmed through the rest of the post. All I know is that 167 is Demetri Martin (yay!) and whoever the OP is, I have nothing that can help with their sexual frustration.

Indeed. I love Tony. I only regret that US Whose Line? never had his as a guest.

118. That's scary. Joan reminds me a lot of my mother, which is probably even worse.

154. LOL, you're an idiot. You probably don't even mean it, but you're still an idiot.

158. I don't hate her - I just find her boring and deeply average. Being Oscar-nominated does not make her great, and I think once she is no longer young and trendy she will be completely forgotten.

137 & 154

[identity profile] vinylsigns.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
137. I sensed that from the way he wrote the "American President" in the Master arc, but other than that is there any real substantial evidence? I mean, everyone fucking hated us because of Bush (and rightfully so), but idk any other examples.

154. It's not like me to pass judgment so quickly, but you just come off so fucking idiotic that I gotta say you're a prejudiced fucktard. Who the fuck cares whether or not you or your girlfriend think he's gay or not; the only reason you'd take issue with it is if you had a problem with it.

While I'm at it, just because someone has a deep voice/doesn't really have pink hair/is hard working (wtf, are you saying gays don't work hard? get the fuck out of my face with that shit)/ =/= he's not gay. That's just YOU stereotyping Marluxia with your own vision of his sexuality. Your girlfriend sees him as gay. Get the fuck over it. Man up and tell her it bothers you. or, I don't know, grow some balls and dare to be more open-minded.

Also, I wonder if the OP of this secret has ever heard of the Straight Gay (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/StraightGay) trope.

149: Peach is like my hero. Most video game chicks are big and busty and wear spandex and as awesome as that is, a dainty princess who's secretly the most powerful character in the series but who's just too refined to realize it is awesome. xD PUT ON YOUR HEELS AND KICK SOME ASS!

162: It actually exists somewhere I swear. I'VE SEEN IT. Unless I dreamed it. I still love KuroFay, but I'm not really involved in the fandom much anymore (the KuroFay one, not Tsubasa) because one day I realized that like... every single fanfic was the same, and there was nothing new and interesting anymore. I don't think it's the pairing's fault, the fandom is just stuck in a rut. xD

Re: 149

[identity profile] sparky-ld.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
The first two Paper Marios really got me to appreciate the Peachinator.

The fact that my little sister loves her in Smash helped, but mostly it was Paper Mario.

113. That would be pretty interesting. Or if Kurapika was somehow trans...(Ah, Togashi. You never know with him.)

150. Do I know you?

103. Assuming that your characterization of these fans is correct...

I think what you need to do is make more of an effort to understand why they feel that way and what they're reacting to. If you think they come up with these ideas themselves or that they're not part and parcel of patriarchy, well...

This is really a pretty natural response to the culture we're in. Point it out to them, give them another way to cope, work at being an ally and maybe they'll stop feeling so shitty about themselves (and all women).

154. Take note gay people: You cannot be deep-voiced, cool, calculating, ruthless, manipulative, or graceful.

I hope your girlfriend ditches you.

103. Word. The misogyny drives me from so many fandoms that I'd otherwise love. :/ It's so disappointing, especially because like 90% of the active members of most fandoms ARE women, so to see them bash each other (even fictional women) just because they're 'blocking' a slash OTP from happening (that in most cases will never be canon anyway) is upsetting -- and more than a little irrational.

151. That scene did like nothing for me. LOL. Not because of the content, cause I've read and seen scenes like that that were really hot, but because Lauren really annoyed me at that point. :P

[identity profile] jaclynhyde.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
101. I love EVE and Dory, but yeah, they have a pretty poor record for female characters. :/ Movies can star females too, really!
103. Well put. Though I've been fortunate to see lots of feminist slash fans in my fandoms--it seems that some are worse than others.
106. Pretty art is pretty.
107. He can sing, dammit! (http://www.amazon.com/Fix-1997-Original-London-Cast/dp/B0000064SV/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1235602810&sr=1-2)
112. Never read those, but man, I loved Christopher Pike as a teen.
115. I prefer an OT3 with Dan, if anything, but yum. (And hell yes, JEH is strangely attractive. Except I can't even tell if they made Walter too good-looking because my standards are weird.)
128. You can write, say, murder without actually killing anyone--I don't see why it should be any different for sex. If you're getting good reviews, then you're probably doing it right. :)
148. You can watch it on YouTube all the time! :D (And I still think the teaser with The Beginning is the End is the Beginning was the best trailer.)
160. Awwwwww.

[identity profile] tenmorehours.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
101. ...What's so bad about their female characters? Bo Peep was kinda bad, yeah, but what about characters like (oh shoot I forget her name) the chef in Ratatouille? Or Dory in Finding Nemo?

131. LOL XD Man, I feel weird when I see that song used in some AMVs...I saw one based around Sousuke from FMP! once in an AMV contest, and it was very well edited, but...it's been two years and I still to this day can't figure out how the lyrics of the song relate to Sousuke (or FMP!) at all.

Not OP, but...

(Anonymous) 2009-02-26 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
The chef was named Colette, and I really liked her! She was a really great take on the whole "there's only one girl, but she's the most capable person there" cliche that keeps coming up in fiction, and the "girls must be tough!" one, too. I love how her character development had her become more independent from what her coworkers thought of her at the same time as she softened out a bit, since I rarely see those things together-- the girl always has to toughen up in order to become her own person, but can't being too tough and isolated (especially when it's just to get the respect of other people) be just as unhealthy as being too accomidating?

I don't really know if I'm a feminist or not, but I think in terms of writing women dealing with sexist situations in realistic/healthy way, Colette's one of the better characters I've seen. :3

103. THISTHISTHIS! I like female characters just as much (if not more) than male characters. I never understood the intense burning hatred slash fandom has for female characters (or females in general). Which is why I tend shy away from slash fandom, particularly in the popular fandoms.

It seems like a no-win situation when it comes to writing female characters. Make her too feminine, she's an affront to feminism. Make her too strong and male like, and you've slipped into "Mary Sue" territory. :/
