When I was a kid, I LOVED theme parks and roller coasters. Going to those was always a huge highlight of my summer. As an adult I struggled for financial stability but still treasured my memories of theme parks. I finally got to a point where I have some disposable income, enough that I could afford a season pass to the closest theme park, meaning I could go as much as I want all season long.

Yeah, adult me learned that unlimited theme park visits are not as much fun as child me was sure they would be. It's hot, it's crowded, the food is expensive, the lines are long, and I'm so tired after working that I don't usually feel like going anyway. Honestly, my childhood dream is shattered and I kind of wish I'd never done this in the first place.

I feel you, OP. The worst thing about amusement parks is too many people.

If amusement parks didn't have lines, I would never stop riding roller coasters. They're so fun, but not fun enough for the overpriced slop they call food, the crowds, or waiting in line. I wish I could have the roller coasters and leave the rest, but if I attempt to do that, I'm sure I'll get like ten minutes of overall ride time to two hours of waiting in line time. In other words: why? If I want to overpay and wait, I can just order Doordash at home.

The park I went to as a kid was hit or miss when it came to crowds. I went to it often enough that I found a nice rhythm to when my favourite rides were at their lowest wait times eventually. It helped that when it lost it's Six Flags designation that less people went, though I felt bad about it too.

Maybe you could schedule it like a sort of vacation? If you have a weekday off you could make a day out of it? It'll likely be less busy, but idk.

I'm sorry you're having a hard time.

I'm sorry, Anon. That sucks.

I loved roller coasters as a kid too. One year I went with my cousins to Islands of Adventure Florida and we went on this twin fire/ice dragon ride (there were two coasters close together). At one point the ride just finished and we were getting ready to exit and walk all the way around again to get back in line which is what you'd normally have to do, but one of us noticed a door was open that lead directly to the other ride so we didn't have to walk all the way around again and could skip some of the line. Well, we kept running through that door and going on the rides back-to-back for 3 or 4 times until the staff finally closed the door Lol. It was good times.

I used to love going to amusement parks too but I started losing interest in them when I was about 30.

(Anonymous) 2026-02-27 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
I am not an American and never was into theme parks so excuse me if this is uncalled for. But is there a way to improve your experience?
Like go off season, not on a weekend if you have some vacation days and with your own food? Or taking a friend with you so lines wouldn't be that annoying.

Anyway. Yeah, some experiences are so much better when you are a child, sadly

I'm sorry OP. Sometimes we do just simply grow out of things we used to love. Hope you can still appreciate the happy memories of your youth at theme parks. At least you gave it a fair shot as an adult and realized it's not something you're into now.

I've had an AP to both Six Flags and Universal, and I liked my AP to Universal so much more than my AP to Six Flags. Six Flags would be closed on weekdays until May, meaning every weekend we'd try to go to just randomly ride something it would be packed with school chorus/band/cheer kids. It was tough. And then it would be busy on some random afternoon in June for no reason? I really get it.

I feel you. I've been The Writer in some very small/mostly-dead fandoms. I still prefer my small fandoms to big ones where you can get passed over just because of sheer volume, but it's only fun if there's someone else you can TALK to.

I've gotten hyperfixated on something that has a relatively small fandom. I mostly write smut fics, and there are a single digit number of explicit fics written for this fandom on AO3... and I've written all but one of them. I'm grateful for the interaction I do get, but I miss writing for larger fandoms where I could expect more comments and kudos. People say write for yourself, but I can't deny I love the dopamine of external validation. I also worry that because I've written most of the tag I'm doing something wrong. Like should I not be writing smut of these characters? Are people annoyed by my presence here? I wish more people would write smut for this fandom because I want to read it and I wouldn't feel as alone on the explicit tag.

Sounds to me like you're giving treats to a small fandom, OP. The only people who might be annoyed are random haters who don't matter. Chances are, the people leaving kudos/comments are happy, and may be inspired to write their own in the future. You never know. ;)

I understand wanting someone else to write smut of your ship, though. I'm in that position with my current fandom, right down to having the minority preference regarding who tops and who bottoms. I'm the only one regularly writing my ship this way, and if anyone doesn't like it, they can read something else or kiss my ass.

As the sole writer both smut and gen for a very small pairing within a megafandom, you have to really manage your expectations. I do still have well-admired fics in the larger fandom space, but I know I'm one tiny grain of sand in a desert, people have so many fics to bookmark and read I know they may never even get to me. In the tiny pairing? I'm all they've got and the comments reflect it. I love "omg I didn't know I needed this" more than the 100th "nice fic thanks good job." Don't expect megafandom numbers and cherish every thoughtful comment and kudos! Your audience loves you for being there for them when they can't! It's literally a case of apples to oranges, love your oranges and don't compare them to your apples.

I'm glad The Waltons was made long before streaming TV. I do like the show, the heartwarm-y goodness, but I could never binge it. There is only so many episodes of wholesomeness a body can take in at any one time.

One of the weirdest things about AtLA is that over the course of TWO YEARS the son of the crown prince of the Fire Nation gets KIA, the Crown Prince gets knocked out of the line of succession just as the Fire Lord dies and the new Fire Lord's wife mysteriously disappears, and then the new Crown Prince is publicly mutilated and banished, and the closest thing we see to any sort of unrest in the Fire Kingdom three years later is Jeong Jeong. Oof.

I think Stevie leaving Good Mythical Morning is the start over a slow shut down for the show. Very slow (probably years long).

Oscar, you are such a Grouch

Way to make everyones olympics more difficult, and cause people to think a game that so heavily relies on sportsmanship is instead steeped in 'cheating' and bullshit
