I'm above the cut... I feel so naked special.

6. I just hope you'll agree that I'm a lesbian and not a bisexual, then, given that I have a gazillion crushes on fictional men and maybe five on fictional women, but never, ever has a man passing me on the street made my head turn.

Disclaimer: I'd really like to call myself a lesbian, but I feel that my fandom crushes prevent that. Please tell me they don't make me any less gay; I need anonymous Internet validation by someone I don't think I've ever met.

[identity profile] moebot.livejournal.com 2007-06-02 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
HEY THERE

I am here with your validation.
I don't think it makes you any less gay. What matters is what you think, not what the world thinks, after all. I went through a similar identity/sexuality crisis, and let me tell you, it's not worth the stressing over whether you're a "real" lesbian or not. If you like girls, you like girls. I don't think fictional characters count, because with fictional characters, it's usually the personalities and quirks that endear them to people, not necessarily whether they're a hot piece of ass or not (well, in most cases amirite).

2. SAME ARGH. I really want to develop a different style, but it always winds up being animu. It's a lot harder than one would think to move from one style to another, and even harder when you really, really want to. There are some anime/manga artists I do make exceptions for, however (Katsuhiro Otomo and Kentaro Miura immediately come to mind) who have a unique enough style that I wouldn't mind trying to model my own after.

12. Signed. I know everyone has their own style and I'm not going to stop them from sticking with it...but I'd be lying if I said a majority of the icon styles of today are awesome. (also, I love that if you don't like a certain style that "you're just hating them because they're just trends!" haha no. I just hate them cos they're fucking boring. :/)

2. Does it really matter? A realistic drawing is no better than an anime one. It's just a style. Styles don't surpass each other, artistic ability does. I'd love to know how to draw realistically, but I don't think any less of my art just because it's in animu-style. Actually, I'm more concerned with improving backgrounds rather than changing my style.
12. LIKE THIS?

It's my masterpiece.

[identity profile] militarypenguin.livejournal.com 2007-06-02 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
2. Where did the poster say that s/he wanted to do a realistic style? S/he just said s/he wanted to do a style that wasn't the usual anime style.

I know I don't even really want a realistic style, as cool as that would be--I just want a style that I can be satisfied with, and most anime styles don't fit that criteria for me.

10. In reference to the 'not being canon';

Just wondering (since I've been spoiled for PW4), NaruMitsu has it's implications as well and the games didn't quite say otherwise (even though what we find out in 4 for Naru is also clearly giving us an idea of an established relationship that isn't NaruMitsu).

It's like denying AxelRoxas in KH (which I don't like at all, mind) but the game pretty much likes to promote. So what makes anyone decide what's canon or not, when technically... there is none set in stone and it's up to fandom interpretation?

In reference to the oppression bit:

Dear god, people. Stop victimizing yourself for something you can easily get well with those who share your ideas, or at least if you'd portray it in a way that it'd look attractive to others and not annoy the crap out of them. (Yay, long sentence) Narumitsu certainly isn't a rarity if you know where to look.

tl;dr part over, and now to the OP; Live and let live. No one's asking you to read NaruMitsu or AxelRoxas, but at the very least, contribute something that makes what you like seem plausible too, if you're part of that fandom.

I'm so glad I stay out of fandom and enjoy NaruMitsu or anything related to the characters I love in PW with those who won't START PAIRING WARS. Gah.

I'll shut up now. :D;;

3. Yay, not all men are the same. :)

To #2: *patpat* It's okay, I can see how that'd be difficult.

To #6: Totally understand. (I'm a bi guy; I found that out by meeting the right guy, once, and I'm still weirded out by how homosexuality, lesbian or otherwise, can mutate when it's put through a fandom filter.)

To #7: You're right. Even if the fandom wasn't dead, you'd have one Hell of an uphill battle to fit in with what's left of it, I'm afraid. Nonetheless, as an old BSSM nut, I commend your bravery, even if I am one of those Ami fans. ;-)

To #9, #13, and #14: You guys all get the Obscure Award for the day. Nice!

re To [...] #14: Bwahaha, thankye! I thrive on the obscure fandoms. :D Politician slash in Australia is a very tiny fandom indeed, only slightly smaller than The Chaser fandom (the two fandoms involved).

16. My aunt's been watching the number 23 for years now, and it's rather creepy to note that it is actually everywhere. :) Seriously. Every. Where.

I thought I'd just put some sort of twist to this whole "secret number six" bit - men have a sort of lock-on device to women. It's built somewhere in the deep little crevices of their brains to find a woman and procreate, as pure instinct (since humans are animals with more aggressive males than females when it comes to spawning the species, scientifically speaking). Now, I can't exactly explain gay men, but I can explain this easy-for-girls-to-turn-bisexual thing: women don't have that lock-on. They don't say deep deep deep in the back of their brain, "MAN. SEX. BABIES." Soooo, technically speaking, all women can be bisexual, but straight women and lesbians are just picky. Me, I'm bisexual 'cause hey, why cut out half the human race just 'cause you can't have babies with them? *shrug* As long as he/she's hot, I'd hit that.

I dunno if this comment applies to what you were thinking of, but I just thought I'd shed a little more light on it.

And not to be nitpicky mods, and sorry if someone mentioned it already, but the link to the not!secret is kind of wonky. :c

6. Personal opinion time!

Love and sex are different things. You're a lesbian if you're female and you like sex with women instead of men. However, you can still fall for a woman and be straight (or straight enough to be called straight, anyway), because if you can't see or touch them you can't get that physical thing going on. I consider love to be emotional connection and gender doesn't have a say in that.

It's also possible for that to eventually lead to physical attraction, just like pure physical attraction can develop into love, so even if you've never found a girl sexy in your life before you might get those kinds of feelings for the person you have a "fandom crush" on if you were to meet in real life. There's no scientific evidence to support what I'm going to say here, but I think it's basically an instinct and the internet is just fucking it all up. Years ago, we had to see the person's face to interact with them (and sizing them up to see if they're a... suitable mating partner), but with the event of online forums we meet people without knowing what they look like or even what gender they are. We get one piece of the equation and not the other. So, um, I guess in a way fandom can turn you gay? Dx

I think that little rant o' mine was off-topic (I also don't know if it actually makes sense or not). Uh, yeah. I actually do agree with this secret.

10. I thought Phoenix/Edgeworth was a really popular pairing though. D= Oppressed? How? THE FANS ARE EVERYWHERE.

1. As much as I'd love to agree with you, I really hate romanticized notion of piracy. Yes, Johnny Depp (as Jack Sparrow) is hawt, but until you've read Marcus Rediker, know who William Fly is, and understand the dialectic of the Golden Age of piracy you really shouldn't go around proclaiming the almighty awesomeness being a pirate.

They usually end up living less than two years. =/

Have you read Under the Black Flag: The Romance and the Reality of Life... (I can't remember the full title)? I'm seconding the dislike of romanticized pirates because they've fascinated me since years before PotC and One Piece.

Hell, I did a presentation with two girls in my class in 1997 (5th grade) about Anne Bonny, Mary Read, and Calico Jack. It was fun.

2. Me too. I no longer like anime, but it's so ingrained in my art style. It's infuriating. And I've been trying to get it out, but any further efforts to do so have failed. Miserably. And so, I feel horribly limited. And I'm not respected at my art college (not that I would be anyway if I couldn't draw anime...I'm not a good artist in the first place). But I do feel that I fucked myself over in that way.

7. Hahahaha XD Sailor Moon is my One True Fandom, so I'm going to say good for you! There are a lot of downsides to the Sailor Moon fandom, though I love it~
Chibiusa's my favorite ♥ I also like the Inners more, Mamoru was a DICK in the anime, I like S but not SuperS. (Which is odd, because it focuses on Chibiusa...but I still don't like it :/)
You're more than welcome to love Sailor Moon in your own way and at your own pace :)
