I know, I know, people can be fans of whatever they want and I am not the god of fandom, but every time I see a K-pop secret I just want to scream "who are these guys? Why do you expect people to know? You think Gackt or (insert band here) is overrated? I was unaware he (or they) was rated." Usually if it's a TV show or cartoon or anime or whatever I at least have some idea.

I lol at people who say that TSN fic isn't RPF. It seems less about semantics of the term and more about not wanting to cop to the fact that ultimately they are writing about people who are unpleasant and unattractive in real life.

I don't really agree. Like you said, Movie!Mark and Movie!Eduardo have different personalities than their real life counterparts (And more ho yay). Even if it's based on real life, they're still just characters. Therefore if I was writing about rl Mark and Eduardo, I would characterize them differently.

It's just like how I see a difference between writing about characters from the Generation Kill mini series and writing about the actual people. They're not the same.

Yep, me too, Anon. I thought it was just going to be HP for me forever, but Merlin proved me wrong. The fandom gets a bad rap because of a few bad apples, which makes me sad, but I suppose that's true for most fandoms, really. There are so many ways that I've been completely spoiled by Merlin fandom. Nothing else comes close to it, for me.

Fuck it, is there a single Highlander fic that actually has characters from the movie in it? I've barely seen the series so I don't know and don't care about half the people in Highlander fics, and you'd think after digging through all the LJ archives there'd be ONE FIC that had Connor or Ramirez or the Kurgan or Brenda or Rachel or somebody.

Any advice for getting your friends into a fandom? I have nobody at all to talk about this with and it's gone from sad to annoying.

You know what subset of SJ people really pisses me off? The people who jump on everyone who uses the word 'bitch'. Dear god, just calm the fuck down, please. Don't we have bigger things to worry about? I'm a woman, and me calling someone a 'bitch' does not in any way set back women's rights. If a woman is acting like a douche, I might call her a bitch. Cause I definitely only ever started watching Merlin after I read Drastically Redefining Protocol and some other epic fics. (of course, I stopped midway through season two because jfc until Arthur finds out about Merlin's magic I just cannot deal with that show).

Right now the only good ones I've been reading are TJ and Amal and Sfeer Theory, which are both fantastic, but I'm caught up with both of them atm and so something new would be awesome.

I'm disappointed that the Rap Critic doesn't get more credit for being feminist. He's one of the few reviewers on TGWTG who doesn't set my sexist alarm going. I don't have to turn off my feminist side to enjoy. Plus, he's funny and cute and articulate and not unnecessarily vitriolic.

So basically I'm looking for some fics where Snape is in character (eg. an asshole) but still good on the inside. Preferably written after the DH book came out. I'd like to read some gen, but pairings are cool as well.
