F!S Anon Meme (the Fifth)

Secrets, rants, opinions, anything you want to say about your fandom or a fandom or fandom in general, do it here! Anonymously, of course. Get it all off your chest.

(LJ's still lagging here and there, good luck.)

I have a huge crush on a BNF. I've never talked to them, but I can't stop thinking about them. The lamest thing is that my affection for them is mostly based just on their forum posts.

Your head is seriously messed up. Really. Get off the computer, leave fandom behind, go meet some people.

There are thirteen crossovers living in my head that will never be written for various reasons (most of which are 'because that's insane'). Comment if you want the synopsis, why it will never be written, or want to adopt it or whatever.

BTVS/Metal Gear Solid, BTVS/Assassin's Creed, BTVS/Digital Devil Saga, BTVS/Chevalier D'Eon, BTVS/Elite Beat Agents
Reaper/Dead Like Me, Reaper/Digital Devil Saga
Dexter/Digital Devil Saga
Silent Hill/Alan Wake/Deadly Premonition (2 variations)
Prototype/Star Trek XI/Doom Movie
Detective Conan/The Crow
How to Train Your Dragon/Sorcerer's Apprentice
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance/everything I have ever loved

(Anonymous) 2011-07-30 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Holy crap, someone else has heard of Deadly Premonition!

I don't know a thing about the middle fandom of that set, but I'd love to hear it anyway.

I love slash fics...

(Anonymous) 2011-07-30 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
but there's a lot of girls in my fandom(s) who are making themselves miserable, unable to connect with a guy b/c they're too busy slashing them with other guys. They want boyfriends, but they feel unworthy ofr undesirable because their slashgoggles have cut off blood flow to their brains or something.

I want them to be happy, but come on! Fandom =/= reality

I didn't think the last Harry Potter film was that amazing. Sure, it was a decent film but nowhere near spectacular enough for the end of that series. The only bit that really moved me was the all of three seconds that Sirius was back for and that's mostly because I love Gary Oldman

White Collar fandom

(Anonymous) 2011-07-30 04:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I wanted to like it, I really did. I love the characters. I ate up S1. I love that the fandom likes the female characters and that there are lots of threesomes because threesomes are always the answer.

But I do NOT get the fandom's obsession with d/s and bondage. Why does every fic in the fandom have to involve some sort of d/s kink? I just like them fucking sweet and domestic. I have nothing against kink! There are some bondage fics in other fandoms that I love, and I will read just about any kink - bloodplay, breathplay, watersports, whatever - in most fandoms if they're well-written.

But the d/s fic in White Collar is so omnipresent and so often not well-written that it actually turned me off the series.

Re: White Collar fandom

(Anonymous) 2011-07-30 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I felt the same way about the X-Files fandom years ago, and when poking at White Collar fandom recently there were some of the same authors from X-Files fandom writing there now. Certain canon just attracts certain kink, I think.

Magic Knight Rayearth

(Anonymous) 2011-07-30 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Anime tops manga by such a wide margin that I could never understand what people ever saw in the manga.

* the characters are shallow (take manga!Lantis or manga!LaFarga for example - no wonder people think of them as wallpaper...the manga fucks them up to no end. Lantis doesn't actually even get the privilege of facial expressions except in the last few pages and LaFarga is just...there. To look like sexy wallpaper.)
* romance somehow materializes even though the protagonists never actually have more than...two scenes together? Mostly. It just springs on us, in many cases, so suddenly it's scary
* the Magic Knights' relationships with their respective countries (Hikaru-Autozam, Fuu-Fahren, Umi-Chizeta) were made of awesome. Period.
* I could go on...

...but let's not kill the slow loading pages.

The only thing that the manga has going for it is the art.

And frankly even then the remastered version fixes a few things up and manages to look prettier and more real for me.

just like in Sailor Moon anime where the fourteen year old senshi actually managed to look more like fourteen years olds - and not even that much - compared to the manga where the legs never stopped and the bodies seemed to belong in fashion shows. xPPPPPP

CLAMP's short stories have severe depth and development issues. I fell head over heels in love with a lot of the MKR characters and ships (OT3!!!), but I gotta admit I'm looking forward to a double 24-episode anime that'll give them the time they need to actually shine.

I will be upset if David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson don't ever appear in Supernatural, given all the other connections between that show and X-Files.

Also, and I'm probably not alone in this, if Jeffrey Dean Morgan doesn't play God in Supernatural, I will also be sad

K-Pop, welcome to Hell

(Anonymous) 2011-07-30 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
No, not really but still.

I've been in this fandom for about a year now. Made the normal moves of manga to J-Pop, then to K-Pop. Nothing special there.

I've met some fans, made friends, it's all good. But there are a few things that bug me a lot.

Firstly;

I ship band members together, I write fic about them, it's all well and good. I'm not going to deny that, but it's the super extreme hardcore shippers who bug me.

If you want to believe a pairing is real, fine, be my guest. If you want to believe all that fanservice is actually ~true love~, be my guest also.

But, please, please, please stop bashing and hating on people who won't write fic for the pairing you ship, for not shipping the pairing you ship or just generally not caring about your favourite ship.

I'm not asking you stop having shipping wars, because that's probably never going to happen, but please stop being assholes. It is not really that hard to stay in your own little circle with the people who ship what you ship. Seriously, there are Tumblrs and blogs dedicated to nearly every possible pairing inside every possible band out there.

Secondly;

I'm all for the ~expression of personal opinion~. If you don't like something, fine, don't like it, you also have every right to say you don't like something. What bugs me is when people seem to hate on others for no good reason.

If you hate a member of a group, say, because he/she got plastic surgery, fine, like I care. If you hate a member of a group because you think he/she adds nothing to the group, fine, I still don't care. But is it so hard to hate things in a justifiable manner?

Thirdly, I'm just asking every single person in this fandom to use common sense and common decency, and a little maturity never hurt anyone. Obviously, this isn't going to apply to the people who already do this.

Lastly; to the cool awesome people in this fandom, please stay nice and cool and awesome.

Thank you for your time, I'm going to go and write more fic.

*claps*

BTW, what pairing/fandom do you write? I have trouble finding fic I like reading for my favorite pairings.

One of THOSE Remus/Sirius shippers

(Anonymous) 2011-07-30 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I am one of THOSE Remus/Sirius shippers.

Their love is so canon, don't care for Tonks, can't stand Remus/Tonks and think it's laughable, nothing can ever separate them, Sirius clawed his way back from death to be with Remus, soulmates, love-of-epic-proportions. YES.

And I know.

I /know./

I'm not ashamed, but I am embarrassed.

I don't put it in anyone's face - I'm not even active in HP fandom anymore, and when I was, I didn't write R/S - but it's true. I ship it like burning, and I ship it like that.

(Anonymous) 2011-07-30 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm in a small fandom and I do love it, but the thing is that when other people come along and start writing fic for it, using the characters that I've really been the only one writing a lot for before, I feel very protective of these characters and don't really like when the new authors put those characters in different situations and treat them very differently than I would.

(Anonymous) 2011-07-30 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
You realize you would be one of those authors that wouldn't allow fanfic for a book you wrote.

Just think about that for a moment.

I've tried reading Homestuck about three times now. But it's just so boring! The first two times I had to double-check I was reading the right comic because I just cannot believe people could find that slow-paced shit interesting! And then there are secrets in F!S where folks say they've cried when something dramatic happens. W.T.F.

I didn't even get far enough for the trolls to appear! I'm starting to believe there are no trolls. That the whole Homestuck is just a huge prank, and the fandom is some sort of evil conspiracy. They just try to lure other people into reading it, and then snicker to themselves when these simpletons try to paddle trough it raging with frustration.

(Anonymous) 2011-07-30 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
...how far did you get, though? Cause it is pretty boring for a while in the beginning.

Bad, bad boys

(Anonymous) 2011-07-30 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I have a thing for bad boys. A lot of people do. I think it's natural enough. They bring excitement and adventure, and they'll protect you! Romantic!

But the bad boy trope can very, very easily cross over into unfortunate implications territory and/or straight up abuse. And I feel like, lately in particular, there have been a plethora of borderline abusive bad boy characters in popular media. Only because it's emotional/psychological abuse, not physical abuse (in most cases, though there are some examples of physical abuse as well) no one wants to recognize it as such.

It's especially disturbing in fandom's with lots of young women. And if you try to talk to them, to point out why these things aren't really that romantic, they shut you down and label you the PC police or a feminazi or something else indicating you're not worth listening too.

And it really makes me worried. I understand fantasies. I understand that they are not real life. I have several fantasies that I would never want to experience for real (unless it was role playing with rules).

But I think we can say that it's OK to have fantasies or be OK with fictional characters or actions, while still acknowledging that in real life they are wrong. But even if you try to frame the discussion that way, you still get shut down.

I'm worried that a lot of these girls don't understand the difference between fantasy and reality. That if some guy started treating her like a precious object that must be protected, she'd swoon and feel safe and loved without really recognizing the way in which her personal freedoms have to be restricted for him to have his way.

It's not everyone. There are plenty of people who are mature enough to know the difference. And I acknowledge that it's not fair for me to try to judge who's who when I don't know any of these people (that I know of). But it's still a worry I have, and I wish I could figure out a way to start a discussion that wouldn't end with pointless name calling and shouting.

Re: Bad, bad boys

(Anonymous) 2011-07-30 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I know what you mean. I'm a little more optimistic about it since I was a total sucker for bad boy tropes in middle school... and then promptly fell head over heels in real life for an intelligent, thoughtful and empathetic guy who hated hurting anyone's feelings.

I guess it comes down to that you have to give everyone the chance to make their own choices, because the thing most likely to make them cling to an unhealthy ideal is being told they can't have it, if that makes sense...

I have three different journals. One where I actually talk about my life and whatnot, one for kinky fic, and one for other fic.

I initially did it because I wasn't confident in my writing, but now I've established myself with each of the journals and... I really wish I'd never done it. At this point I'd feel badly about abandoning any of them, though. I just don't know if there's a way of combining them without people side-eyeing me.

(Anonymous) 2011-07-31 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Why bother combining them? Why not just put a note in each of the profiles saying what your other journals are. You wouldn't be the first person to split things up like that.

She's a liar and a thief and she even stole off the TF3 movie set claiming the lugnut off the Optimus truck's tire was given to her. She has no footage of the handoff but has pics and video of right before and after. Stupid bitch.

I went to the set myself after she was there - this is going by dates only - and I tried to reach down to unscrew one of the lugnuts and security got on my ass so fast. I had a flashlight and they saw me. Bonita didn't that's how I know she got away with it.

Trying to get her prosecuted for it. No luck due to lack of evidence. She is one reason the TF fandom gets a bad name.

I am so creeped out by the stalker in kuroshitsuji fandom

(Anonymous) 2011-07-30 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I would never have known about her if I didn't read F!S. Now I know she exists, she even has supporters, and it's so fucking creepy. I guess now I know why the fandom imploded. But, how is it that a bunch of online harassers/stalkers isn't named and shunned everywhere? No normal fandom would tolerate this, amirite?

who the hell are you talking about. we only had one really bad case of the crazies, and she pretty much fled LJ to ff.net after people called her out on her bullshit and nobody on LJ would tolerate her anymore. it's old news, bro.

I'm straight.

I watch Spartacus entirely for the female cast. I really couldn't give a less of a shit about the men and their man pain and honor bullshit.

I feel like I'm doing it wrong.

(Anonymous) 2011-07-30 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
You're not if you're fans OF the female cast. Even then you're just sliding up and down the Kinsey scale if you find the cast more attractive than the male cast.

Just enjoy yourself and don't worry about it too much. :P

WOW, LJ COMMENTS ON THIS POST ARE TOTALLY FUCKING UP FOR ME.

Are you logged in? I find being logged out screws up the comments big time.

My fandom is boring the hell out of me now, but I can't leave. I have nowhere else to go.

I really hate revisiting an old cartoon/book/movie/etc. and getting ideas for fic and stuff...and then realizing that it has no active fandom for me to squee with. I did that recently with Pirates of Dark Water and now I has a sad =(
