I was surprised to learn that hushpuppies are not more common outside of the US. Hot and fresh hushpuppies are the food of the gods. Think cornbread that is mixed with spices and herbs and fried. YUM!

That FF.net secret from a couple days ago got me thinking: I usually don't check FF.net because I always seem to be really unlucky with finding well-written fics from my fandoms there, but I always wonder if there's some gem I'm missing out on because I don't have the patience to search through the site. Which is kind of a pity. So, anyone have recs of awesome fic from FF.net? (I'm personally mainly interested in The Hobbit, Teen Wolf, Avengers and Harry Potter, but let's turn this into a general rec thread!)

The Hobbit has made me want to get into the LoTR fandom. I was only into it for like...a wen back in the day (we didn't have Internet).

Anyone know any archives that have a fairly good tag/search function. Obviously not AO3 or ff.net.

Or a site where I can post specific things I am looking for and get recs?

Or if anyone still has their old recs...I am looking for hurt/comfort involving Faramir (his relationship with his father is perfect woobie fodder), Aragorn, or Legolas (but only if they are really good, I only wort of like him).

We've had about seven (or more) inches of snow here, which is extremely unusual. It snows every year, but we normally only get an inch or two. And it's still snowing. Goin' to have fun walking to work tomorrow in my wellies again.

so according to tumblr, the Le Mis characters being really skinny is ~*~fat erasure~*~ (actual quote, minus the tildes) and is horribly offensive, and “but they were supposed to be literally starving” is no kind of “excuse” because “there are also fat starving people!!1”

What. We aren't talking about people in the modern day who've been eating greasy fried stuff or overly-processed foods that are nothing but empty calories, and which have made them gain fat while still being undernourished. We're talking about Revolutionary France, where these people simply DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO SUFFICIENT FOOD TO BE HEALTHY. I just can't even with these people.

HELP spaying a female dog

We have three male dogs in my house, un-neutered.

There is a female stray in our yard which we might or might not adopt. My parents have always been against taking in female dogs because they've driven the males in the household crazy, like, making them turn against each other and ruining their friendships and stuff.

So, if we spayed the female dog, would all that hormonal nonsense stop?

I keep finding all sorts of answers on the internet (I will consult with a veterinary later), and if it turns out she will keep driving male dogs crazy, then my parents likely won't agree to keep her.

Any opinions, f!s?
