Oh, good grief. Bisexuals adhere to the gender binary to much the same extent as lesbians have Greek passports.

this hasn't been my experience with it. quite the opposite actually, considering how literal the bisexuals in my social circle take their label - "i like men and women," they say. perfect, but not everybody is either a man or a woman or both, and the differentiation is useful to me, both as someone who is genderqueer and as someone who remains open to people of all gender identities. i mean no hatred or disdain in my choice of label; preferences are preferences and people cannot help them. don't mistake my own identity as that of a person who is looking to one-up others.

Then perhaps you need to meet a better quality of bisexual person, or just start sampling the asston of literature by bisexual activists that don't define our sexuality in that way. Who's authoritative here? Robyn Ochs, Lani Ka'ahumanu (the two of whom wrote the books about bisexuality), The Bisexual Resource Center, the soc.bi faq, the 1990 Bisexual Manifesto.

your assumptions about pansexuality do not have any objective value; you may choose to refer to me as hateful if you wish but i've no interest in applying your fallacious opinion to what has been expressed in queer culture towards the contrary. i'll survive knowing one person thinks i am expressing hate/disdain for people who buy into the gender binary.

I've not said anything about pansexuality. I've only critiqued your offensive definitions of "bisexual." Perhaps you should address people who buy into the gender binary, and not bisexuals like me who clearly and explicitly don't.

then i would fault "bisexuality" as a term for not only being misleading but apparently pandering to the many bisexuals who offensively do buy into the binary, which is an old, outdated and oppressive system. unfortunately through my experience i have reason to believe you are in the minority, though i will do as you suggest and look for other bisexuals to surround myself with.

You identified yourself as genderqueer. Gender + queer. It don't get any more binary than that. So no, you don't get the privilege of redefining gender and queer to meet your needs, and then erasing the way that we reclaimed and redefined bisexuality.

2) experiences anti-bisexual prejudice in the larger culture.

Then I'd say they fall under the big-umbrella catholic definition of bisexual.

Bisexuals get singled out over this because of biphobia, not because of anything about who bisexuals are or who we date.

Attracted-to-cis is the default assumption. Everything else is an add-on case by case, which you have to inquire about before knowing for sure. That's just how it is.

Bisexual- attraction to two or more genders.

trans men are men, and trans women are women, and you don't need a new word to include them

genderqueer falls under "or more" which how i've seen plenty of people define bisexuality. even if they didn't who said the distinct genders a bisexual is attracted to are men and women.

transgender people who fall under the gender binary are not the people i am talking about. i made it very clear many times that transgender people are not always nonbinary because they are scarcely intertwined. but intersex people exist. nonbinary people exist. in many cases the bisexual community, the parts that i have seen and the people i have encountered, do not acknowledge this, or worse, deliberately don't include them.

it's great that many bisexual people don't do this. i'm happy to see some of the bi population in this community speak out about it. but there is a lack of consensus in their own community, even if caused by a small number of people. so long as the bisexual label doesn't include nonbinary people to some bisexuals, the need for a clearer label is evident. pansexual people are, apparently to many, just bisexual people who don't like the label. there's a reason why, and it has to do with "other" bisexual people not being inclusive.

my experience applies here as it's painted both my views of a part of the bisexual community and helped influence my own choice of label. i am not using my experience in an attempt to prove something objective or factual. i am explaining how those experiences have shaped my views.

you're misinterpreting my posts then and i'm sorry for causing confusion. from my first comment, my point has been that i use a specific label due to negative experiences with those of another label that may otherwise apply to me, and because the community is not consistent in its definition, i've opted to use a clearer term for myself. this isn't an academic paper.
