Question about friending memes

I'm not even sure how to word it here. Bear with me.

The last several times I've added people on friending memes, including fandom ones, I've added people because we share common interests (if not fandoms), but they end up only talking about real life things that are just not very interesting, to be blunt. Like what they ate for lunch, or all the random chores they did on Saturday afternoon. I don't mind real life posts alone, my LJ's largely real life anymore, but sorry, I don't know you well enough to care about mundane day-to-day details. Or about people I've never met, even, like their boyfriends or kids. If they told me things about those people it would help, but they don't.

I don't even know how to explain it better, at least without sounding like a flippant bitch. Can anyone help me out here?

I think if you're looking for fandom friends who blog more about fandom than personal lives, the place to go is tumblr, not LJ.

I have some friends who mostly talk about offline life but they go into full detail and I basically get it know them in a meaningful way so I don't mind.

I understand what you're saying though. It's one thing to hear the daily routine of people you know; it's a different thing to hear the vague daily routine of a stranger on the internet.

Inspired by comments in the video game thread.

There are certain things people do these days, that shouldn't be a big deal, but people who do them make them into a big deal. Turning it into a huge part of their identity when it doesn't need to be, acting like they're oppressed when they aren't, etc. It gets annoying.

Video games - it's a hobby. It ought to be fun, but people keep turning it into SERIOUS BUSINESS and being jerks and trying to decide who's a proper "gamer" and who isn't, and that kinda sucks all the fun out.

Beards - if you want a beard, grow a beard. It's your body, do what you want. But for the love of God, please cut it with the REAL MEN HAVE BEARDS! REAL WOMEN LIKE BEARDS! Hey, do you know what you call a man with no beard? A WOMAN HA HA HA! Ugh, the whole hipster masculinity thing is just getting really fucking old. Yeah, it's probably "ironic" but people need to learn that being annoying ironically isn't less annoying than being annoying sincerely.

So, I was wondering about two things, because I don't want to do them if they're bad form.

1) I got art for my SS - is it considered oka to use it somewhere - like in an icon, or as a background on tumblr etc. Is there an etiquette for that?

2) I'd sort of like to post the story that I've written as a SS somewhere else (like on AO3), because I sort of like sharing my stuff with people - also this keep all m stories centralized in one place in case my computer crashes. But again - how acceptable - or unacceptable - is this?

Ok, so tomorrow I'm going on a date with some person I met online. (Yes, the meeting will be in public, yes, I'll have a friend nearby, yes, I took all the safety steps). What the hell, right? other people do this all the time, and they survive. From the profiles, and the exchanges, we seem like we won't immediately hate each other, anyway.
Still feel like I'll make a massive idiot of myself. I mean, fuck it, somebody just broke up with me, it's the middle of the holidays, I'll probably get stupid emotional about something stupid - please tell me something encouraging so I don't chicken out.

Probably a spoiler or two here for all four seasons.....


I just mainlined all four seasons of this show and while i enjoyed it for a lot of reasons.... I really felt the writers dropped the ball with Fiona. It was like they had given her too much 'good luck' or something and so had to make her behave like an utter idiot in order to twist the plot up and keep the 'poor people porn' happening.

Which is one of the reasons i'm kind of off put by it, because it really *is* 'poor people porn' sometimes.

It was nice that they finally eased up and gave us one or two short m/m sex scenes that were as revealing as the m/f ones, but they could do better.

All in all - i look forward to season five, i just hope they don't forget the growth that *all* the characters have gone through. (And, omg - Joan Cusak. She is so fucking awesome.)
