I wish I could muster up the ability to care. But I guess Star Wars was just a cultural phenomenon that I completely missed. I've seen the movies but a lot of the impact is lost when you know every "reveal" and iconic line already.

so... what is it about? ok, it's a teaser, but it seems such a blatant, cheap set up of the two lines of "you (the audience heheh winkwonk ;) ) have the force"
and "we're home" from old characters.

there's a women and a black dude, which I approve of, but you really must be invested to get hyped by that.

Movies that SHOULD be remade

I think a film is ripe for a remake under two conditions:

1. If its original version just missed being awesome; we got the less-good version of a good story. I.e. Ladyhawke, The Paper.

2. If it's been long enough that an updated version would place the original story in a whole new context in which its basic conflicts could play out in a new way. I.e. Sunset Boulevard, The Conversation.

Admittedly, nothing's guaranteed. Under the second rule, the remake of The Manchurian Candidate should have worked. But I think those are a good jumping-off point, no?

I know there a lot of different subscription services out there (makeup/nail polish) and I know LootCrate has been hit or miss lately, but a few months ago, I signed up for The Strand's Young Adult signed first editions. In a 6 month period, they'll send me 5 new signed editions. I'm enjoying it so far and was wondering if anyone knew of any other great book of the month subscription services they liked.

I saw OwlCrate ( http://www.owlcrate.com/ )and The Book Drop ( https://thebookdrop.cratejoy.com/subscribe/ ) but wasn't sure how to feel about them or if they were worth it.

Do I take the offer or not?

So, as some of you know, I've been trying to lose weight. I've been plateau-ing a bit, and long story short, my mom offered to get me a gym membership.

It's one of those package deal where you're basically stuck to the gym for a year.

Reasons I'm considering it:

- I couldn't afford it
- Building muscle tone appeal to me even without the weight loss
- it's literally walking distance

Reasons I'm hesitant:

- I feel like it's a huge gift to accept

- I've been thinking about trying to get a job abroad after summer, meaning the largest part of that package would not get used if I do.

- If I for some reason can't keep it up, I fail no only myself but also my mom.

Ideas? Thoughts?

School transcripts and university paperwork

So I'm going back to school in the fall to finish my bachelor's degree. I sent in my paperwork last month, and I have until May 1 to get everything in. And I'm panicking. Since a lot of the required documentation is more than a decade old, it couldn't be sent electronically; I had to order copies to be sent by mail. And according to the university website, they haven't gotten any of it. At what point is it acceptable to call the admissions office and freak out and offer proof that I sent eveything in? I'm thinking I'll call on Monday. Or is that a bad idea? The only thing I haven't sent yet is the non-refundable few hundred dollar registration/confirmation fee, because I don't want to throw away the money if I'm not gonna get in because my paperwork vanished en route.
Thoughts? Advice?
