...How are the Three Stooges a geek thing? How does that qualify her being a "real" geek or a "fake" geek?

I mean, she legitimately had a World of Warcraft addiction for several years. Some of her guild even made cameos on her series, The Guild. If that doesn't give you geek cred I'm not sure what does.

Seriously, what do the Marx Brothers and Three Stooges have to do with anything?

Yeah, that's kind of a fuck-up, but like others have said, you can be a geek and still get shit wrong. Isn't part of being a geek having very specific interests? Like, I know a lot about DC comics, New Hollywood movies and Monty Python, but I called those twins from AOU "Cosmo and Wanda" recently. (I realized my mistake right after, but still.)

And isn't the problem with the whole "Fake Geek Girl"-bullshit that additional level of scrutiny directed at female geeks, anyway? Like, this idea that because the person is female, their interest in geek things must not be genuine? Because Felicia Day seems very genuine in her interest in video games, for example.

"Fake geek girl" isn't a thing, this is really terrible evidence that it's a thing, and you need to try again.

That is awful in its sheer ignorance. Three Stooges were on television (in endless reruns) when she was a kid. As for the Groucho and the rest of the Marx Brothers, and their films, were and are classics. Both of film and of the comedy tradition.

I sort of feel like, "okay, she might well be a geek-- just not about classic comedy teams." I geek out pretty hard over vintage noir detective fiction, but I won't get up in someone's face if they don't know who wrote The Continental Op stories or who John Dalmas was. Maybe if they boast about how much they know on the subject and then get tripped up they might get some ribbing-- depends on how haughty the boasting was.

But really, the nitpicking/gatekeeping aspect of fandom and geekery is very tiresome, and the less I see of it the better.

Okay but isn't she into gaming? That's what people accuse her of being fake about, right? (I don't actually follow her but I feel like that is what I normally see.) So what do old comedy routines have to do with her being a geek about games? Since when do geeks have to be a geek about EVERY POP CULTURE THING EVER.

I never understood the whole fake geek girl phenomena. Fake geek people exist in general. Being fake isn't exclusive to a gender. I've run into plenty of idiots who think they're geeks just cause they watch the big bang theory. Shit, most of the fake geeks i come across are male, all I have to do is ask some "BIGGEST BATMAN FAN EVER (aka i only watched the nolan movies but proclaim to know everything about him)" who their favorite Robin is and they pull up a big old blank.

I don't really think the Three Stooges are a geek thing though...

The way I see this is it's basic movie history (and whoever mention the Three Stooges only being on TV, who had a damn TV in the 20's-40's?). I had to watch them as a kid when my dad wanted to watch TV, we only had one TV in the house until the late 90's.

To me, confusing the Marx brothers with the Three Stooges is like confusing van Gogh with Picasso. I'm just like how?

Also the fake geek girl thing probably comes from her being good looking. Geeks and nerds were never well known for looking attractive and to see an attractive person in their space confuses them, and the same thing happens to me. We're outsiders and we don't want normal looking people invading our space.
