I still love seeing this sort of cultural goof crop up in stories, because you're right, OP-- it is heartwarming. It's like the creator really internalized those characters from another culture into their own heart, and I can't help but love that. <3

I kind of like the Elemental Masters series. It's hit or miss, particularly in later books, but the concept is clever.

Even better... it's not about fucking Mags. I am SO sick of that character, and she just keeps milking him.

I don't know what the flap is, but I wound up reading an article about sexual practices in Islam the other day, and oral sex is forbidden because the mouth is used to recite the Koran.

Hell, he was especially amazing under the lens of his time period. The fact he considered Wart his son at all when Wart wasn't his by blood. He would normally be a ward or just a servant, and a lot of what he does is as far as the times allow.
