Why don’t you want to write it OP? Do you not want to put characters from fandom B in that situation? Are you not interested in writing a similar story? I recommend identifying why you don’t want to and talking to that person about it. Suggest an alternative option that you are interested in writing.

I think it’s cool that you write birthday fic for people but it shouldn’t be stressful. And they should understand if you’re not interested. I hope you can sort it out and have fun with it.

Can you write it with a twist? I mean, I get not wanting to write the same thing again, but what if you did the story so it had a different outcome?

I echo the first comment - you are very nice for doing this, and it should be fun for you. If it isn’t, don’t write it.

It sounds like kind of an interesting writing challenge to me. How would the characters in B react as opposed to the ones in A? Would the setting affect things? What do you have to do to make things plausible for B, if anything?

You shouldn't feel obligated to write anything that you really don't want to. But if you liked the setup you, it might be worth it to spend a little time just thinking about how it might be tailored towards Fandom B, just to see if there is anything there that you might like to write it. If it turns out that it's just not something you want to do, maybe ask your friend if there is something specific about the fic that you wrote that they like that might work with a different setup.

What a strange attitude. Gifts of any kind are meant to be for the person, not you. You've never bought a friend a present you personally would not like? To me, it seems very rude and selfish to do this for all your other friends but not this one, especially since the offer and request were both already made. Suck it up.

Doll drama is always so weird to me. I mean, I know that all hobbies have their drama, more or less, but somehow drama among adult collectors of dolls is especially bizarre.

I’m assuming it’s just general racist hate, possibly around considering “black features” to be ugly?

Usually it's because the show is dumb but the characters are hot and it's popular in fandom so there's lots of good romance and smut

I can just google what the characters look like, I don't need to know the details

I don't get it either, I need to have the emotional attachment to the characters to want to search out fic otherwise they're just blank cardboard cut-outs with nothing that entices me to dig deeper. Even smut doesn't work for me unless I know the characters, the emotional investment is key to my enjoyment of fic.

I don't judge people if they do this to be clear, I just find it confusing.

I discovered my latest obsession and new favorite show from reading fic of it! I was reading Prodigal Son fic because I liked the show and I love LDP and found a good whump story of his character and was like 'I wonder if the author has written more of this?'. She hadn't, but I was intrigued by the summary of a fic from Longmire and decided to read it and Googled the characters and was like 'wait that's LDP!' and read the story and loved it and decided to watch the show and fell in love with it and the characters.

Additionally, I have friends who aren't in certain fandoms who read my stories from them. I've convinced at least one friend to watch the source material because she liked the fic concepts and characters enough (hilariously it is the same author that got me to watch Longmire). Another won't touch the show but they'll read the fic because it's 'hot' and they just Google who everyone is and assume I know what I'm doing lol.

That being said, I'm being talked into watching two different shows so I can write fic about the characters because I CAN'T do that (and there's no fic in these small fandoms yet/anymore anyway).

There are times I can, when the author goes to the trouble to actually introduce the setting and characters instead of just dropping the reader into the middle of things and assuming they already know who or what all the names mean and how the politics/magic/relationships work.

I mean I have friends that have never played my favorite game, but they read my fic for it, and I assume it works out for them because the first story in the series pretty much is one of the canon characters being introduced to all the weird stuff that makes Valendia different from just "faux-medieval-France", so they learn the characters and setting along with this character as he begins his pre-canon adventures (and meets his ride-or-die XD). And I've read some long chaptered AUs for fandoms I don't know because well, they're creating a different version of the story and characters so it doesn't matter that I don't know the canon version. It basically reads like original fic.

But I mean... that kind of takes effort and a lot of words. So if you're talking about quick and easy reads in a fandom where you're unfamiliar with canon, I can't do that either. But hey, whatever floats someone else's boat.
