... but you wouldn't mind if someone else made them for you! As always, including the fandom and full character names is a big help, and I'll try my best to use an appropriate image choice.

Just to clarify - it's my intention to make all the secrets left in this thread, so even if they're not marked claimed, they will be made. I'll monitor this thread until tomorrow's secret post goes up, so feel free to leave your comments until then!

My Secret: I think Self Insert Fics only work when the author is self aware enough to know they are cringe, and deliberately writes themself as not being as competent as they want to be. Like they insert themselves as supposed to be knowing what is going on, only for the story to go all weird on them and it never to work out.

People keep talking about Superhero fatigue, or Franchise fatigue, to explain why so many movies are underperforming right now, I think it is fairer to say it is just... plain old fatigue. We're all tired. We're all strapped for cash. And we all want something a bit lower key. I think we're standing on the precipice of a new age of low budget indie flicks coming to dominate the cinema. It has happened before, it'll happen again, the movie biz goes in cycles like this.

Is there a German word for when a song makes you feel utterly melancholy and wistful, yet quietly joyful and peaceful at the same time? Because if there is, then I'd like to apply it to the theme tune for the Cosgrove Hall stop-motion version of Wind in the Willows. That theme tune, I don't know how it makes me want to feel. Sad, wistful, at peace, what, tell me Cosgrove Hall, tell me?

I still say that I Dream of Jeannie fits comfortably into Star Trek's backstory! Both have NASA with military pilots, and a more advanced space race than in reality for the sixties, and crazy beings with superpowers who are attracted to pleasant but fairly generic male protagonists. You cannot stop me!!

I wish Star Trek would stop showing torture as being effective. All real world studies have shown that torture is almost hilariously ineffective at getting information out of people. Yet Star Trek keeps having the "good" guys torture info out of enemy mooks all the damn time though. Please, stop it. I beg of you.

Studying the Golden Age of Piracy for college has made me think that, in many ways, Jack Sparrow and Barbosa might be the most realistic screen pirates ever, because every single one of those old timey pirate dudes were legit a 100% theater kid. If you weren't being a complete overdramatic diva, were you really doing piracy properly?

I'm glad all the big players are pulling out of Comic Con, it has gotten waaaay too corporate in recent years. It needs to be a bit more indie again.

Everyone talks about who should adapt Discworld, and with books, and they always start with big names and the later books. I think it ought to be Equal Rites and done as a whimsical Anime movie with a cutesy theme tune from a studio nobody ever heard of and a first time director. This is an opinion that was never popular, anywhere, but I stand by it though.

Just don't make it an Isekai.

I know this is petty as shit, but I am glad that Star Trek Prodigy is being buried. I am happy just because that it was the show that that asshole Steve Shives kept on shilling. That is the only reason I care, because it'll make him sad. SorryNotSorry, WellALittleSorry.

I haven't seen Across the Spiderverse yet, I'm told it is part one of a duology so I'm waiting until part two is released then I'll watch them both back to back. I just hate cliffhangers and multipart stories, even in movies.

I wish there were more documentarians like the late Jack Hargreaves, there is just something so soothing about his voice and matter of factness that you don't get in broadcasting anymore.

I just cannot take House of the Dragon seriously. Those wigs just look so stupid. They are like something that even early 80s Doctor Who would reject for being too daft looking.

With One Piece entering the final saga and the mangaka a bit, part of me is afraid the author will take my obscure favs (who have just stuck to the background til now) in a direction that breaks 10+ years of headcanons

I'm so, so bored of pop fiction being described in terms of a) which boxes the protagonists tick, b) which other book franchises audiences the publishers want to grab or c) the author being the next version of a well-known author.

It stars a trans, non-white protagonist and their disabled lesbian friend? It's Game of Thrones meets Twilight? The author is the next Dan Brown? I'm not interested, just confused! Give me a summary!!!

Oh, it's about the trials and tribulations a fierce and compassionate transwoman goes through as she navigates the complex matriarchal society she was born in alongside a dragon who is now flightless, has PTSD, and lost her wifemate in the ongoing war against the crystal vampires, only to find a massive conspiracy involving the Holy Church of Eva that upends their worldviews? I'll check it out.

I never really watched any full adaptations of Wind in the Willows but I was sure since I was a kid that Badger dies in the end and I was confused nobody ever mentioned that when talking about the story. But as I wasn't actually interested in Wind in the Willows and didn't really know anyone who was I never bothered to confirm this information.

I just now found out that I apparently watched the audio narration for an illustrated childrens' book called "Badger’s Parting Gifts" where yes, an old Badger dies and his friends include a mole and a toad among others so... yeah. Decades of mild confusion solved.

I might get hate fur this but. .. whenever I see the claim "I've never seen an OC that wasn't horribly written , shitty and annoying" it honestly tells me more about the person than the objective value of OCs.

Not just OCs but with any type of writing , confirmation bias is a factor . Not saying you don't know what you like but if you go into something having already made up your mind it will color your perspective.

That's why I think it's dumb when people try to beg anyone and everyone to "give my fic a try" . If they don't like it , they don't like it. But it doesn't matter bc at the end of the day it's all fanfic and it's for fun (or imo it should be) . Read what you wanna read and write what you wanna write.

I'm not a massive Bridgerton fan but I've watched the show and otherwise enjoyed it, but I am not looking forward to season 3 at all because I already know I won't like the main romance.

Part of it is that I ship Pen/Eloise so I'm predisposed to being meh on their canon love interests even though I know my ship can't happen, the other part is that I really like Penelope and I find the guy she's meant to get with so devoid of personality I can't even remember his name. I just don't get any kind of vague romantic vibes from him towards her, he treats her like an agony aunt he can talk with to fix his emotional problems and then immediately leaves once she's done that while she pines after him and... I just want better for her. :(

Maybe I'm being too much of a pessimist and the writing will make it work but atm I am unhappily awaiting the next season.

For some reason, no matter how many times I read or watch Little Women, I always remember the father dying at some point. So I'm always genuinely surprised every time I reread/rewatch and he makes it to the end.

I don't like non-canonically* trans characters in smutfics. I'm fine with them in fics that don't have sex scenes or at least not explicit ones. This usually happens with F/F and M/M ships and 99% of the time only one of them is trans and always has the genitalia of opposite sex, making the whole thing a het porn. And it's always written exactly like regular F/M smut. Which is not what I came to read about in a gay tag. Sometimes it just feels like what the author really wanted was to genderswap one half of the couple, but didn't want to get the flak for turning a gay ship into het one, so used transness as a loophole (probably not the actual intention, but it's what it feels like).

*This does not bother me when the character is actually trans in canon

The Rinoa is Ultimecia fan theory makes so much sense out of an idiotic plot that starts at the beginning of disc 3 that I want to play again and see how I feel about the game. Griever being Squall’s ring turned GF, the GFs erasing memories causing Ultimecia/Rinoa to forget why she wanted to cause time compression in the first place, it all makes so much sense to me that I wonder why Kitase nixed the idea in an interview.
