I feel that. I had to nope out of a comm because even though we had a shared love of a ship, the fans were just fucking hideous about other characters and other ships (and sometimes other fans!) and just brought down the mood.

Now that I think about it, I may have noped out of several comms like that. Heh.

The older I get, the more I think that it's just easier and more peaceful to enjoy the media and dabble in fandom, but not get too involved. I had fun with fandom and fandom friends when I was younger, but it's a much bigger pond now.

Yeah. There are some topics that I feel the fans are good to bring to light and discuss but most times the discourse is fandomers getting self righteous and drawing lines in the sand.

I think that if Boseman hadn't passed, Black Panther would have been the perfect choice for the passing of that candle.

We'll have to see how Cap 4 turns out, though. Because I think either Sam or Bucky could maybe take that role once they move back to the movies.

MCU Cap is not a good guy. He's not a bad guy but many of his actions are very questionable.

That is absolutely not the reason that MCU is struggling at the moment. Like, on a broad level, it's very low down the list.

i'll say that while i don't agree with that framing of cap america, i do think the mcu introduced characters who had clear long-term conflicting perspectives early, and only a few of them had their own stories and that allowed for clearer themes.

Can't speak for other people, but as someone who dipped out around the time the MCU got rid of Captain America, that definitely wasn't my reason. It was more that there was too much going on and I didn't care to keep track of it all. Like, there are literally dozens of tv shows, no way I'm watching all that, but apparently some of them are relevant if you want to keep up with the movies and I just do not care to do that anymore.

It's not the specific characters, it's how they treat the characters. I wouldn't trust them with a returned Steve or even a new Steve-like character. I mean, just look at what they did to the old one!

That would be rad because I've heard of the legend and it's a very spooky story, but isn't it... kind of all made up? I mean, it's got a higher dubious bs quota even by cryptid story standards. There are no bunches of murdered/missing people, the town probably became a ghost town for economic reasons (ya know, like most ghost towns) and not because of some mystery creature killing off the inhabitants, etc. etc.

I’m with you on 2 and most of the good online places to hang with other AFOLs kick those people out. Or dump on them mercilessly for being so ridiculous. As someone with two OG goats without the new one, I’m cackling at everyone crying about the goats. I tried to find the set with the original goats as incomplete so I could just buy the building but no one had it listed anywhere. So I got stuck buying it complete for…I don’t remember how much but too much. But it’s one of my favorite sets in my absolute favorite theme. I’m happy I’ll get to add some more goats in a different pattern. I buy that stuff to build, display, and play with. I only spend what it’s worth to me.

But I can’t agree on 1. I would have my first maybe 6 months building and then I learned how much it costs to buy a set that came out before I got into Lego. If someone has the space, more power to them. And as someone who has purchased almost as many retired sets as current (meaning current anytime since I started building 7 years ago), I’m honestly grateful people do it.
