Moirallegiance (derived from the three Moirae, or Fates, and the word allegiance) is a process that occurs between a troll and their "moirail". It is a form of guardianship, but it isn't simply about being platonic soul bros forever, see ANDREW'S COMMENT. A troll is compelled by fate to watch over their moirail and keep them in line. Despite the platonic appearance of this role (as we currently understand it) to us humans, trolls consider it a type of ROMANCE. It is one of the two conciliatory relationships, the other being auspistice. Moirallegiance's quadrant is known as the pale quadrant. As it is a redrom, it is linked to pity in the same way that black romance (blackrom) is linked to hate. Moirallegiance is a portmanteau of "moira" (fated) and "allegiance." This kind of relationship may be most similar to the Greek concept of στοργή (STORGĒ), or "like family," which can be defined as "mom shut up i'm not a baby."

So while it is a "romance" in technical terms, it's not one of the reproductive quadrants, and can more or less be equated to platonic friendship in human terms. I think there's a difference (albeit a fine line) between romance and actual sexual attraction, and that's where moirallegiance vs. matespritship comes into play.

So it's unconfirmed, but still strongly implied, much like Karkat and Terezi's matespritship. Also, I think it's also implied that you can have more than one person in a quadrant at a time. That was never specified, but never denied, either.

Despite being considered a romantic relationship, I really feel like Kanaya's sexuality would not come into play with moirallegience. There is not sexual attraction involved at all, so what she identifies as wouldn't matter.

"It's nice of you to want to erase women from positions of importance in other women's lives, though!" I felt like this comment was really unnecessary and irrelevant to everything else. It's not about taking Vriska out of the equation at all. It's about personal preference for shipping, which by the way, is not even that big of a deal!!

Putting aside all the troll romance technicalities, you even say yourself that Kanaya was Vriska's moirial to a certain point. How would someone who shipped Kanaya<>Karkat be "erasing a woman from a position of importance" if the story has already done basically that?

Check out the animated page with the examples of known romances. Kanaya auspitised for Vriska<3<Eridan and Vriska<3<Tavros, sooo uh there's no reason she can't have a conciliatory relationship with Karkat.

I had always assumed her "girl-fetish" only applied to concupiscent relationships, and not conciliatory, since those aren't involved in reproduction. Otherwise, that would mean she would only auspistice with females, while I'm pretty sure she's already done otherwise.

Kanaya's sexual preferences aside, it bothers me more that Kanaya<>Karkat is in the fanwiki all official-like when there's no solid proof of it. Just because Karkat says "she was my really good friend" doesn't automatically mean "she was my moirail." And Kanaya hasn't actually diamond-dumped Vriska. Her coldness towards Vriska in the Veil, along with clocking her during the 3x showdown, can certainly be interpreted that way, buuut... it's not really finalized.

Also I don't think trolls really have more than one moirail at a time? It doesn't say they can't, but since all the known pairs are singular, I think all their energy for the quadrant goes to one person.

Maybe Karkat has a pale crush on Kanaya? "ARE YOU DONE WITH THAT SOCIOPATH SPIDERBITCH, WILL YOU BE MINE NOW?" And she's just not that interested, too busy putting Rose on a pedestal.

Op, it feels like you're projecting too much of yourself into a fictional character.
I understand your right to fear men etc...But I think you're the one who fucking missed the "first fifty times Andrew attempted to explain troll romance". See Kanaya being the auspistice of Eridan/Vriska and Vriska/Tavros.

Also, it's not because you decide that "queer shouldn't hang out with men" that everybody will apply your principle of life.

I do both of these things and don't feel like a hypocrite. There is no sexual component to moirallegiance, and trying to apply our definitions of sexuality to trolls is vague at best. I could buy that she's only interested in women for any quadrant (although it has been joked that she's a bit of an ashen two-wheeled device, we've never to my knowledge seen her in a definitive auspiticizing situation), or I could buy that she's only interested in women from a sexual standpoint, but open to pale and ashen romance with either gender.

The "want to erase women from positions of importance in other women's lives" thing is straight-up dumb, though.

Interesting. From what I got from my reading of Homestuck was that Kanaya had an exclusive sexual attraction towards women, not a romantic one. I believe Hussie described it as similar to someone who only dated fat people. It's not that she can only love women, it's that she is only sexually attracted to women. Moirails don't have sex, only matesprits and kismeses do. Therefore, Karkat and Kanaya isn't a ~bad pairing~.

I don't ship it myself, but I don't think it's fair to say that it's anti-woman or hypocritical.

Romance and sexuality are more complicated than that, though. Romantic attraction and sexual attraction aren't entirely the same thing, though for most people they're closely linked. A person might be queer because of their romantic preferences, because of their sexual preferences, or both. I'm mostly homoromantic but not homosexual (since I'm not really attracted to anyone sexually), so it makes perfect sense to me that someone could be homosexual without being entirely homoromantic.

I have plenty of faults, but believe me, being "male-priviliging and lesbophobic" are definitely, definitely not among them. I just think Kanaya<>Karkat is adorable and works really well, though I prefer it as a side dish to a main course of Kanaya<3Rose.

Given how much more complicated Troll romance is than Human romance, I don't see how questions of sexual preference would not be accordingly more complicated. Which is to say, I see no compelling reason that a troll's preferences must be the same across all quadrants.

I think this is why they don't have any word for "gay" or anything equivalent. They'd need words for preferences towards at least 4^3 sex/quadrant combinations (assuming "male-only", "female-only", or "either one" as possible preferences for each) in order to account for all the possible configurations, and that's not even considering all the possible variances in configurations for Auspisticeship, or for more complex preferences such as "I like my matesprit to be the opposite sex of whatever my kismesis is," or "I like to keep all my quadrants the same, but either male or female works"; and even that isn't considering anything outside the gender binary.

So, long story short, I think you're kind of overextrapolating on exactly what Kanaya's canon sexuality entails.

Just want to clarify a couple of things, as someone who does ship Kanaya/Karkat as moirails...

1. Kanaya and Vriska as moirails is over, in story. Kanaya felt flushed for Vriska, who felt flushed for Tavros, and so they stopped being moirails.

2. "Lesbian" is a sexual orientation, i.e. who you find physically attractive. Moirallegiances, as far as the series has shown, have nothing to do with sex and are dependent on who complements the other. So I don't think sexual orientation has anything to do with the matter, or at least that's the way I see it.
