Gift Thread: Lifelong wish fulfilled today!

As far back as I can remember I have wanted my own Crayola Big Box. Oh how envious I was when I saw other children with theirs. Sure my friends shared but what I wanted was to have my own Big Box to open for the first time and be the first person to look upon the pristine rows and decide which one would be used first.

When I was eight I saved up some money, which took forever because of tithing and the fact that I was eight, and was actually allowed to keep it and so excitedly I made plans to buy a Crayola Big Box the next time we went into town. Before that happened though my church announced Crayola crayons were unclean because they could possibly contain pig fat?

My tiny dreams were crushed. I remember the exact moment. I had to sit there and pretend I wasn't crying through the sermon.

To add insult to injury my mother said I could buy Roseart crayons instead.

...I ended up donating my money to an adult illiteracy charity to try and make myself feel better.

Well, today this kid that I babysat occasionally is moving. He came by to say goodbye and to give me a farewell thank you gift.

It was an unopened Big Box of Crayola crayons, 96-count with sharpener and new crayon smell. I just stared at it for a second and all of a sudden I realized two things. 1) It was mine. 2) I should probably stop gaping and thank him at some point. He was so excited that I liked it and he had even brought me a sharpie to write my name on the box (how cute was that?) and then we had to go through all of them and look at the color names.

His dad pulled me aside and said, "Don't worry, we got you a real gift, he just got it into his head you would want that." I just sorta looked at him dazedly and said something like "Real gift? What? This is the best thing anyone has ever given me are you crazy?" His parents ended up giving me a very lovely yellow sweater, which was nice, but pshhht little kid knew what he was doing! All the brand-new crayons are so beautiful I'm afraid to use them, I just like opening them and looking (and sniffing).

Now I get to spend a five-hour car trip dedicated to healing my tiny childhood grudge with a brand new box of crayons and an oversized sketchbook. My Thanksgiving travel plans are looking up!

Scariest scenes in a non-R movie/non-TV-MA show? (or equivalent)

So, F!S, what's the scariest movie or TV scene you can remember...but only from a movie whose rating was PG-13 or lower or a TV episode whose rating was TV-14 or lower (or the equivalent -- 12A I guess? -- for you guys outside the U.S....sorry I'm not well-versed in those designations)?

It's easy enough to think of really intense scary scenes that everyone thinks are scary in movies and shows that are meant to be mature, but the ones aimed at kids and teenagers tend to be more creative and quirky and affect people in more idiosyncratic and personal-preference-y ways.

Good acting in terrible scenes? (or terrible episodes)

Have you ever had that experience where a movie or TV scene (or even a whole episode) was really badly-written or stupid or annoying or was part of a sequence of events that made no sense or was OOC or something, but the actors did such a fantastic job of acting that you couldn't help but enjoy the scene anyway? Can be for any reason...really lame plot, but really fun/hilarious delivery, or a irritating wall-banger of a plot twist, but played out with beautifully intense and genuine emotions and stuff, or whatever.

I just watched Sunday's episode of Dexter last night and OH MY GOD. I was freaking out when Deb confessed, (inside voice) screaming "OHMYGOD OH MYGOD" and "WHAT'S DEXTER THINKING!" over and over at my TV. That was some intense shit. The show has hit the right balance of stupidly ridiculous and wildly entertaining. It's a good clusterfuck. I love it.

Any thoughts, guys?

I logged on today and whoa, so many comments on my post yesterday. ...Unfortunately I'm neither feeling well nor do I have much time but I want to talk about this with everyone and reply to the amazing replies I got. Tomorrow (or maybe tuesday since mondays get ignored... idk) I'll try posting my individual replies in one comment here.

I feel so bad that I didn't get a chance to reply. Heck it's causing me some pretty bad anxiety right now. Today's theme is...Wish and Kobato.! Two relatively small series bundled together as a pseudo-continuation (though Kohaku just showed up in Drug & Drop). Did you love Kobato for her honesty and compassion, or did you want to pack her off to Vegas? Is it sacrilegious or not to depict holy messengers as stuffed rabbits? Did Kohaku make the right decision in the end? Post your thoughts!

how do you deal with being in a small fandom? i tend to hang out in fandoms that are either enormous with lots of activity or some form of inactive, dying, and scattered.

currently, i'm in love with a fandom with barely 30 fanfics on fanfiction.net (eleven of which i've written myself), no active LJs and a tiny presence on tumblr.

I can totally relate to this. I've been a fan of F/SN since I was in the 6th grade and having Saber as a role model has changed me a lot, nice to see I'm not the only one XD.
