Holy cow, this place is empty :o GC is still on the first page!

So this totally isn't a waste of a comment, I'm making lamingtons (basically, cubes of sponge cake in chocolate icing and coated in coconut) for my grandmother's belated Christmas present (I had a cold at the time and would rather not pass that on to an eighty-six-year-old).

What's your favourite baked good to make, GC? Or, if you don't bake, to eat?

So I took part in a sorta gift exchange this year. I made a point to include in my wishlist "do NOT give money to LiveJournal in my name in any way" and someone still bought me a V-gift over there.

Yeah, it's a gift. Yeah, the person (probably) thought it would cheer me up. (I'm not that much paranoid yet that I would believe anyone would purposefuly buy something just to spite me. Seriously.) No, they didn't owe me anything. No, it didn't cost them much. Yeah, I know I'm supposed to thank them anyway. But it still it rubs me the wrong way.

It's not as bad as, say, a coupon for meat to a vegetarian or making in your name a donation to a political party you loathe. But it still irks a bit.

I dunno what it is about Warren Ellis. There's this sort of vicious quality in almost all his works that is the source of a lot of the humor, and it's no more prevalent than in Transmetropolitan. Which is good because Transmetropolitan is perhaps one of the most seminal works in comic bookery, a huge influence on what I do (and how I talk -- I don't think I've ever said "you fucking bastards" half as much as I do after reading Transmet) and has a biting political bent that still holds up well today, well after the Bush years.

Are there any plots or narrative elements that keep showing up over and over and over in your fandom's fic, and you absolutely cannot stand them?

If I never see another "sudden unexplained Pon Farr in a cave that causes Spock to realize his repressed feelings for [insert other character here (usually Kirk)]" it will be too soon. Goddamnit fandom, that plot started getting stale DECADES AGO.
