Just got slapped with a copyright infringement notice from my internet service provider (Charter, for those who may have different ones.) And being that I know it's damn well justified, I was mostly like, "...damn. They finally caught me."

Except I look at the file they claimed I was accessing illegally, and I never did? Not that file anyway.

Turns out my sister just doesn't know how to get around using torrents. How silly is that?

I know I've been busy with school work- almost done typing up a 5 page paper due tomorrow and I have another assignment for the same class as well.

Fucking photographers - A Rant - TW

Ok, so there is this website for british models and photographers to display their portfolios, make contacts, and get work off each other.

A lot of these sites can be... risky. Some photogs are, frankly slime. There are cases of photographers actually sexually assaulting models, and when reported the models are generally told things like "What do you want us to do? If we ban him, or let these complaints stand, we might be sued for liable, so we're going to need you to keep quiet." Really horrible stuff.

Because of this, there is a group online dedicated to model safety, keeping models aware of some of the worse cases in the hopes that they'll stay safe from the sketchy photogs.

On one particular site, someone posted in the forum a link about the frequency of rape in India (it was shocklingly high) and one 'gentleman' made a joke "At least you won't need to spit in her cunt, the last guy will have left it nice and wet." Classy guy, obviously.

The model safety group hears about this. A few members for the group, as well as a few people not part of the group complain, saying this is really not cool, and would they please remove it. Site owner responds with something to the tune of 'Comedians say stuff worse than this all the time, stop whining.' and accusing the 'secret model group' of planning a hate campaign. Like wanting to keep models safe is like the fucking illuminati or something.

But yeah, so a day or two later a great deal of perma!bans get handed around. To the models involved in the model safety group. including at least one model who hadn't even made a complaint about the sick joke, presumably just for being a part of the model safety group. This is grounds for a perma!ban, apparently.

I mean, Fucking. Hell.

HP-related fic writing questions

I'm writing an HP elsewhere fic about an average wizard family during the 1997-1998 year. A family who, while not agreeing with what was going on, isn't part of the Order of the Phoenix. Regular people.

One part of the story is average slice of life stuff surrounding one of the youngest daughters in the family and her life in the present, and the other part is about her experiences during that year and how they still effect her in the present.

In the story the father who is a healer finds a way to get his son out of going to Hogwarts by making him appear to be sick enough to not go. He gives the kid some sweets from the skiving snackboxes (received by mail order) and in desperation gets the kid (who is not allergic to it) to touch some poison ivy so it looks like he's obviously ill and contagious when the ministry workers come to check up on him. He does it a very careful and controlled way.

I'm worried that this act will be seen as abusive or cruel and make the father unsympathetic (or will find it unbelievable somehow) It's sort of meant to be a time buying stunt to get his kids out of the way of the action. (basically make it look like one kid is really sick, and then ship the kids to a relative safely away from things until it's over) I'm concerned because I once saw a person who thought Hermione's obliviating her parents was a "crossing of the moral event horizon" because she "did it flippantly without concern for them and acting like she knew better".

Does it seem that cruel or harmful ? Is it realistic that it would work? What are other ways that wizards could flee England during the war? What's more is it likely that people outside the order have inklings that Voldemort and his Death Eaters are behind what's going on in the ministry?

Going to first ever con tomorrow

Some of the people in the group I will be going with (too chicken to go by myself) will not. let. up on me not cosplaying. They keep giving suggestions from my favourite things and just don't. get that I don't see it as fun/don't want strangers running up to me abotu a costume or photos or whatever. Last I heard cosplay wasn't compulsory! I just want to go buy things! I don't want to dress up with anything other than a fandom shirt!

I keep. saying. NO. STOP OFFERING MORE SUGGESTIONS STOP IT

Uuugh, I feel you. Whenever my friends and I talk about cons, they always talk about cosplay, and while I can appreciate the work that people put in to a good cosplay, it's not really something I want to do for myself (falls into my personal realm of "taking fandom too far", plus it's time-consuming and expensive, I don't even have a sewing machine right now, etc.). But my friends go on and on to me about how fuuuuuun it is and how cooooool it'll be to go as a group cosplay or something.

Makes me hesitant to go to another con.
