The worst part of astraphobia is the way people always act like you're either overreacting, faking it, or immature for being afraid of thunder tbh.

Also I don't mind people liking thunder but can people stop going on and on about how much they love thunder and how much they hope it thunders to me when I am preparing to try not to have a panic attack during an incoming storm.

Regional differences

I watched a show recently where a character did the eenie meenie miney mo rhyme, only it was very different from the one I learned. And the one I learned seems really dark and twisted in retrospect.

What I heard: Eenie meenie... catch a tiger by the toe; if he hollers let him go, eenie meenie miney mo. My mother told me to pick the very best one and you are it.

What I grew up with: Eenie... catch a tiger by the toe; if he hollers make him pay $50 every day. My mommy told me to pick the very best one and you are not it.

What did you guys grow up hearing? What other regional differences have you experienced?

How do dragons fly?

How do they do it? They're so huge. And heavy? Do they have hollow bones, like birds? I get that they're based on dinosaurs, so they should actually have feathers, right?

I was watching the GoT trailer and damn that dragon's the size of a B52 Stratofortress but going the speed of a hang glider. How is that possible?

I get that the conventional answer is "magic" but, like, what kind of magic? Could you cut off the magic part that makes dragons fly and use it to, say, make your boat fly with some sails on it? And if it's magic, why are baby dragons all awkward? Shouldn't the magic just make them fly right away? For the size/bulk they are and the land speed they're going, they'd need some kind of anti-gravity field. Is it in their horns?

If they're magic, why do dragons grow at all? Why don't they just hatch as adults? Why do they have sex and lay eggs and not just clone themselves? They're magic.

If dragons are immune to fire, does that mean they're immune to all heat? Could you coat one in oil and light it on Wildfire and just have it roll around on the battlefield? Could it carry lava in its bare talons? Could it fly into a volcano, pick up some lava, and go on bombing runs with it? If they're immune to heat, does that make them immune to all temperatures or just ones above a certain point? Could you freeze a dragon? Is the whole dragon immune, or just the scales? Could you skin a dragon and be fire-proof?

Moreover, how is Daenerys fire-proof? Could you skin her and be fire-proof?

Because if I was some kind of fantasy warlord, I'd skin her to be fire-proof. Why didn't more people do this to the Targs if they're really immune to fire?

I need some perspective.

I keep getting hung up on the "problematic" aspects of canons I like and it's killing my enjoyment of them. I think it should be enough to acknowledge that everything has its issues and move on, but for whatever reason I just can't.

I guess I feel guilty about it? Like, "wow, you really suck for liking this Bad Thing and you should feel bad". Plus I worry maybe a little too much about people judging me.

Tell me I'm being dumb about this, FS.

Kid Fics: Why would you even?

So there's this tv show/movie/video game/comic book that you REALLY like, and it's all about these badasses doing badass things. So why would you decide to write fanfic where you saddle them with kids?

I'm not even necessarily talking assbabies; canon het couple get hit with this too, and some canonically single characters get stuck with both the OC spouse AND kids.

And I'm not saying you shouldn't (I reserve that for writing the 187th barista AU in your fandom) but ffs, WHY WOULD YOU?
