I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who sent kind comments regarding my friend's horse Butch the other day. They really meant a lot to me. I'm still having trouble coming to terms with him being gone, and I wish I could've taken Sharif to see him one last time. Still, at least he's not in pain anymore.

Heeeelp (apartment hunt)

I am posting late here but have spent the day apartment hunting here in Washington DC (anon who just moved here for work, whoo!). And I'm pretty much going nuts. D: Being as I'll be living alone (don't know anyone here) I am willing to spend a little more to be in a safe area and a secure building. And I also want a 35-minute-or-less commute. And I'm basically finding... nothing within my price range, besides a few small, old buildings where all the reviews complain of broken appliances and roach infestations.

I probably CAN afford to go a little over budget, but I also feel I SHOULDN'T. And everyone keeps telling me opposite things. Live in Maryland! Live in Virginia! Never live in the suburbs, only live in DC proper! Since we're talking a year of my life at basically at least $1500/month plus at least another hundred for utilities plus god knows what else, it's hard not to want to listen to everyone's input, but I seriously don't know what to do.

Argh. I'm fat and I walk everywhere all the time (no car, don't drive), so I totally get why my knees periodically declare war and try to torture me into staying in bed. They're firing volleys of pain signals to my brain as I type this. But why do my elbows hurt so fucking much? Not my back or my neck or even my feet. My fucking elbows. Ow ow ow.

Ugh fleas

I visited family a few weeks ago and now my poor old-man-cat (and me I guess) have fleas. He's 10 now and in the 7 years I've had him, we've never had a flea problem. He seems so confused.

I knew I was in trouble when I stepped in my parents' house and my mom had a bowl of flea water on the arm of her chair for drowning tbe buggers as she found them. I saw one on me in the car, and one on me on the couch a few days later, and I'd really hoped they were anomalies tbat would be dead soon (or, the same one both times). But today I saw a several scurrying around his precious face and neck and I feel like a bad kitty mom.

Will get some flea stuff from vet tomorrow, but now I'm paranoid their infested in my couch and wherever else and this'll be a long drawn out process.

I love my family, but I had their filthy house. And cleaning it does no good. It's always back to shit by the 2 month mark. (Also I feeeeeeeel them, even though I'm sure it's just my imagination, at least part of the time.)

Please vote for Wrinkle in Time or Hitchiker's Guide. I'd love to read either of them with peophe here. They are both excellent books and a lot of fun to read. With all the dark and depressing stuff going on in the world, I think reading something lighter would be fun.
