Isn't 25k to 50k kind of a big jump? 25k could be waiting tables, 50k a salaried position after a promotion or two.

Weekend (New Years!)Plans

What will everyone be doing this holiday weekend?

My birthday is Sunday so I think we are doing something on Saturday. I just want to play board games because I am boring like that. Hopefully everyone who is sort of sick won't be any worse by then (like three different bugs are going around). Other than that, I won't be celebrating the holiday much.

I think I'm going to do a year-end writing push. If I can end 2016 with 40,000 words in my novel, I will be a happy camper. I'm at a little over 36,000 right now, so it's definitely doable.

Preparing to get on a plane, getting on a plane at mumble-mumble a.m. New Year's Day, being on a plane for a while, getting off that plane and on to a new plane, being on the new plane, getting off the new plane, picking up my car, driving to hotel, groceries, getting ready for work on Monday.

Tomorrow we'll do Chinese food for dinner and then hummus and crackers at midnightish. We'll probably watch something, but not sure what yet. Or maybe we'll play Scrabble. Certainly we'll get out the alcohol.

I will have to do some studying this weekend. But hopefully not too much.

I brought some dvds and cds back with me from storage, so I'm working on ripping the cds to my computer so I can put them on my ipod. So I'll spend some time doing that. And if my books that I got for Christmas have come, I will start reading the Rogue One prequel novel.

So my aunt was supposed to take my mom to get some bloodwork done earlier today, but I haven't managed to get ahold of either of them since this morning. Maybe it's just this fucking year doing a number on my brain, but I'm scared. This was not helped by being woken up at 3am by a nightmare and then having the shit scared out of me when I was finally drifting off an hour later by my mom, in her separate house on the same property,'screaming herself awake from her own nightmare. Stupid anxiety. Stupid nightmares. I wish mom's drinking and medical history didn't provide so damn much nightmare fuel. *Sigh.*

you realize that you have to quit your job.

I've only been here three fucking months, and I cannot believe how toxic it is. I'm treated like shit and paid like shit. This was supposed to be a great opportunity for me to kickstart my career in this field, but all I do is put in loads of unpaid overtime every day, try to juggle a billion tasks that I've never been trained on, and be constantly snapped at for not being a mind-reader and trying to blindly navigate inconsistent and contradictory instructions. Of course, at the end of the day, they talk about how much they love me and am glad I'm here (after they've kept me hours late) - well no shit, this position is terrible and I can't live off of the dismal salary, no wonder your last person left. And despite being promised a salary review at the end of the year when I took the job at this crap salary, being told it's not in the budget after all was the last straw.

I really wanted to stick it out a year, because it's a great job for meeting people and making professional connections, but I about had a break down in my evaluation today. The thought of job hunting again somehow feels liberating. Of course, I'm sure I will be guilted to death if I try to resign, but I just can't. I know I'm underpaid for the position I'm in, and tied with the high expectations of working late every night, I'm emotionally in a bad state.

Did you have any last straw moments at a job? Were you able to quit?
