For me, it's not often a self insert-esque thing and more "this is cute" or "this is interesting."
I think this works well describing video games where the character I want to marry isn't always who I'd want the protagonist with.

When it comes to women relationships, I do ship f/f less, but it's because there's often not a lot of meaningful interaction between female characters. This is definitely changing, though.

I'm the opposite. I love grand scale in scifi and fantasy. Things like this can show just how evil a villain is. Yes, it is cliche, but it works for me.

I mean, real sports also don't involve plays like volcanoes and earthquakes. Sports anime is DRAMATIC

Saw it coming. Still hate it. Just because they planned it doesn't mean it was a good ending. They spend the last few seasons telling us why Ted and Robin weren't good for each other. I do ship Barney/Robin and think that they just worked and that their ending made no sense. But even apart from that, Ted and Robin don't work.

And what gets me is that basically the message ends up being that Ted's dreams of a family and kids are the objectively best dreams and that there was something wrong with Robin's dreams and that she had to change who she was. That's what bugs me the most.

Also, by the end, Ted was really unlikable to be honest and even the Mother didn't deserve to be stuck with him, but at least that pairing worked and they fit each other.
