Oh god there was a massive, uh, dividing of the fandom a few years back when the G2s came out. Something about the fucking 'shadows' or someshit. People actually divoting time to makig HATE SITES for the G2s and those who loved them and oh God I wish I was making this up.

I don't like Guitar Hero and games like that because my boyfriend loves them and plays them nonfuckingstop and I am SO DAMN sick of all the songs on them.

Also, I am really really bad at them and he's always trying to get me to play them. It's NOT fun to play a game you suck at.

But since he loves them so much, I just bought him a new one for his birthday. My dislike of them is less than me wanting him to be happy.

I think it's great that you get so much fun out them, but some people (like me) are just sick to death of them.

Its the Sabriel/Lirael/Abhorsen Trilogy by Garth Nix. the OP's picture was the original covers, the reprints have new ones? Its a really good series, and really under appreciated in terms of fantasy.

I went through a ton of online nicknames before I finally settled on Lunarkitten, which is the only name I've had that isn't fandom-inspired. Fandom nicknames don't necessarily make you childish and some people tend to keep them for years, even after they lose interest in the fandom. I use Sailor Cybertron on most of the Sailor Moon sites I visit to represent both my awesome lifelong fandoms. Changing your name a lot IS pretty annoying to me though.

tl;dr: Screen names are srs business.

Okay, so, for a while I was thinking that everyone in the comments is right, it's just the kink meme where people are asking for rapefic that completely and totally disrespects tragedies. But then I thought about it for a minute.

THE PEOPLE ON THE KINK MEME ARE IN THE FANDOM. They are anonymous, so you don't know that they aren't the people asking for fanart of chibi!Italia or Germany/Italy or whatever.

Also, there's a certain line where I think people should make a stand against assholery, and "LOL RAPE OF NANKING AMIRITE?? XD" is over it.

What you've brought up is essentially what I've come to think of as the anonmeme paradox. I remember running across a person on some anonymous meme complaining about how they hate the anonmeme for ruining such a nice fandom. The response to that comment has always stayed with me, and it was, in short: it's still the same fandom, just anonymous. Suddenly, no one feels as good about themselves anymore.

But I believe I have good reason to think that those requests on the Hetalia kink meme do not represent the majority of the fandom. Someone else here has already pointed out that they are only a handful in something like over 30 pages of requests. The Hetalia fandom is even bigger than this. I don't use the kink meme myself. I personally know other fans, whose words I would take on faith if they told me that they would never exploit history in such a horrible way. It would be ridiculous to give in to some kind of paranoid attitude toward your fellow fans just because the meme is anonymous. I just won't.

The Hetalia fandom acknowledges that those requests are fucked up. The fandom is, in general, pretty intolerant of this kind of behavior, because unsurprisingly, we're pretty much more aware than anyone how controversial this series has the potential to be. We make every effort to separate this kind of behavior from the majority of fandom, and the series itself, which contains none of this volatile material. If you're calling for people to make a stand against the kind of isolated awfulness presented in the secret, I have nothing more to say. But if you're calling for everyone to boycott the Hetalia fandom because hey, any of them could have made a request, I really have to protest.

Yes, but no. TTW had ten times Twilight's quality of narrative, and the title of the book is part of the point; yes, it's amazingly fucked up and the 'romance' of the situation is debateable, but the point is that Claire IS rendered powerless by this situation, not because she's a woman ( or even because she was the woman of the relationship ) but because she's not the time traveler. If their roles had been swapped, I firmly believe the book would be called "The Time-Traveler's Husband". To me, at least, the book shouldn't be valued for its romance (mostly because it's just taken as such a given and not properly developed, IMO) but as a recount of Claire's tragedy it's poignant and striking.

So, I get what you're saying, but you're still wrong. <3
