Soooo I see all these ads on TV for things to solve vaginal dryness, and as a woman in my 30s, I just have to ask--if you're not having penetrative sex, is vaginal dryness a problem? Because I'm sitting here thinking "so maybe no more discharge ever? that would be gREAT." Am I missing something? Vaginal dryness sounds like a feature, not a bug to me.

I have had this issue even though I haven't gone through menopause yet (though I did have a hysterectomy). But I have endometriosis and vaginismus, and I'm often in pain down there. More dry means more pain.

I'm post-menopausal (at least I guess it's over?) and haven't been having sex and I haven't noticed any issues. If I did decide to have pentrative sex I'd probably just use something at that point. But it could be that I'm not having the vaginal dryness issue as much, too. I haven't noticed much discharge but I never had a lot.

In my 30s; not sexually active and occasionally dry but still discharge every now and then. I think it's another thing the beauty industry is trying to sell us on along with everything else they try to.

Late 30s and probably perimenopausal here-- definitely experiencing dryness and it's definitely uncomfortable. It feels like... hot and sticky/itchy in a really unpleasant way, like your thighs getting stuck to a chair in summer and standing up, that aggravating peeling feeling. I use a cortisone cream that helps a lot, though.

The less discharge thing is definitely nice, that said!

So a lot of TV ads are aimed at Boomers because that's the demographic watching most TV, and yes, for post-menopausal people it can be a problem. It can also be painful in itself because those tissues are meant to be moist, and can increase the risk of fungal and bacterial infections.

It's definitely a YMMV issue. I'm 55, had a hysterectomy about...25 years ago? and very like post-menopause (hard to tell when you don't know when your periods would have stopped), and I guess - I've never been like...super 'wet' (it was a bit of an issue when I had penetrative sex all my life), so I don't notice anything. Certainly no discomfort. But again - YMMV and it could be a real, bad issue for some.

(Never had an issue with discharge, either, so....*shrugs*)

Erm... honestly I don't even know how vaginas work since I have BAD pains (it's related to a medical issue I got surgery for so I know there's nothing wrong it's just the way it is.) but the pain keeps me from using menstrual cups for instance. So I assume anything that causes vaginal pain could be bad for many reasons and not just painful sex. This is obviously not the reason why post-menopausal women might not want a dry vagina but yeah.

The drop of estrogen during menopause causes the skin down under to be less lubricated. (And all the other unpleasant menopausal effects)
It can cause mild to severe discomfort. Especially hard on those sexually active, since it can cause pain. Peri and postmenopausal folks are advised to be very generous with lube bc tears and cracks also heal less quickly aka higher risk of infection.

From a menopausal cis woman: vaginal dryness isn't just about penetrative sex, it's about the natural moisture that the vulva usually has on a daily basis. When that starts to go away, you notice! It's uncomfortable. There's more chafing than there used to be. It's not just the vagina, it's the whole vulva, so even clitoral masturbation feels more rough than it used to.

PSA: if you have a vagina and you are a frequent recipient in penetrative sex: THERE IS NO SHAME IN USING LUBE IF YOU ARE UNCOMFORTABLE, NO MATTER YOUR AGE.

I just had to throw that in there because occasionally some people feel ashamed if their not-yet-menopausal vag doesn't slick up on command. Lube is not only for anal.

The Criterion Channel is running a block this month called '30 Years of Art-House Hits: A Tribute to Sony Pictures Classics' and I finally got to watch Run Lola Run and The Prophet which were every bit as good as I had heard them to be.

I loved Run Lola Run!

I watch a lot of shows but not many movies. I had to look up the one I saw last on Netflix. Apparently it was Level 16, a horror film which was nothing amazing but definitely entertaining.

I haven't seen a movie in theater since just before the pandemic. It was Portrait of a Lady on Fire, which I thought was fantastic. I kept talking about how I didn't think I was going to enjoy it and came home raving about it.

The last movie I watched in theaters was Wakanda forever, and I enjoyed it.

The last movie I streamed was the Steins;Gate movie, but I had already seen and knew I enjoyed it before that, despite it’s problems.

I need to get the Criterion Channel, because I’ve always wanted to watch more art house films. I’ve definitely wanted to watch Run Lola Run. The only film I think I’ve ever even seen on the Criterion Collection last time I checked was Picnic at Hanging Rock. Which was amazing. So idk why I haven’t watched more like it.

Ticket to Paradise in the cinema and I loved it for what it was.

The last movie I saw in theaters was See How They Run.

I liked it a lot! The cast was amazing, especially Saoirse Ronan, and it was just a fantastic time to get to watch all of them do mid-century British murder investigation business.

I also really hated the overall plot and conceit of the movie, in ways that are definitely spoiler-y. But that didn't really affect my enjoyment of the parts of the movie I did like.

is that she looked like she was 40 almost 30 years ago, and she still looks 40 today. It's like she hit puberty and became 40, and now that she's almost 50, she's still basically 40, because that is her default state.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if she looks 40 at 70. I also wouldn't be surprised if it turned out I was wrong about the lower bounds of her 40-ness, and she actually looked 40 right when she came out of the womb.

Honest-to-God work & law-related question

Soo I am leaving my job and they asked me to fill a blank form. In this form instead of asking "gender" and "marital status" which are the usual here, they are asking for "gender identity" and "sexual orientation" . Now, the gender identity I kinda get (because some trans people might feel uncomfortable otherwise and it allows for pronouns) though it only makes things confusing I guess, since it's a blank form and not every boomer knows you're supposed to answer, say, "cisgender man" probably.

But "sexual orientation"? Like what. Honestly wondering if this is even legal now that I am QUITTING you're asking my sexual orientation? What for? So you can say "hope you find a good husband/wife who will provide shelter for you honey"? Are you gonna find me on Tinder? ... I mean even if I wasn't quitting that would be strange. They're not even asking for marital status now just "sexual orientation" . Seriously.

It's apparently not illegal in my area but damn. Makes me wonder what the fuck they're doing with information. But anyway if you know whether it's legal in your area pls LMK
