I've left "messages in a bottle" on old profiles of people I knew 15+ years ago just in case they might see it. I wouldn't mind if someone who had good memories of me in the past wanted to catch up with me, I'd love it. But some people don't want to be connected with old shame.

Going to be the downer that says yeah, if this were about me, you'd be right.

It's been a loooong time, I'm not the same person I was as a teenager, and I bet neither are my old friends - I HOPE not, because we sure were kids. Had a lot of silly fun, made some nice memories, but no real interest in reconnecting with someone who wouldn't recognize me any more.

Yeah, I wonder about some of my old fandom friends, especially the ones that I can't find in fandom anymore. One of my friends, when they left fandom, I was legit worried it was to commit suicide but I'll never know because I've never seen them around again. But there are others who I hope just aren't in fandom anymore and I hope they've moved on to other, better things.

And then there are others who I'm pretty sure are still in fandom doing fandom things, but probably under a new name. If they wanted to still be friends, they would have reached out / told me what their new username is, though (I've had the same username on all socmed sites for 20 years; it's not on me to reach out to them lol).

I didn't get very far when I tried to watch Justified years ago, not because of the cop thing, but because my ace ass just could NOT understand why he recognizes that he shouldn't sleep with what's-her-face, professionally, ethically, etc etc while things are going on. And then goes and does it. Like....dude, you could just not? I quit in frustration.

I don’t mind it either. Sometimes it provides a necessary antagonist. Sometimes it’s just about venting your frustrations. In any case, I do think it’s kind of a dick move not to tag it or to pretend you’re presenting the canonical version of a character.

Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of character/fandom bashing in crossover fanfic stories. I get why people do that, you get to show why your favorites are so much better than those other lame examples. But as someone who reads crossovers because I like both fandoms involved, it gets really obnoxious going into them blind.

So now Trump is threatening to go after immigration attorneys for doing their job. Yes, telling clients to commit crimes is illegal. But it is not a crime for an attorney to help a client frame their story in the light best likely to help their case. In fact, that's our job.
