Pet Adoption

Someone convince me not to adopt a second cat. I went on Craigslist this afternoon and found a cat that could be a really good companion to my current 13 year old male cat, but now is probably not the best time for me to introduce a second cat into my home.

Extra BG info: my SO just moved out, and I started back to work (teaching) this past week, so my kitty is home alone from 6-4 or 5 every day while I'm at work.

Does any kind soul have an AO3 invite they'd be willing to part with? Because I'm one of the anons that's been struggling with a fic for months, and I think it would help if some of my other stuff got some more exposure than just the LJ fic comms I posted to back when I first published over there.

And I feel really self-conscious about self-pimpage in general fannish comms like this one though, I've been really fortunate to see other people pimping my stuff, and hugs and kisses to you wonderful people). Plus, I haven't migrated to DW yet, but maybe I should...

And to keep it general-commenty, where do you post/how do you pimp your work, FandomSecrets?

I've been at college for two months now. It's exhausting and stressful and my psychology lecturer is a little bit insane, but I'm enjoying myself! Being in an English-speaking environment for the first time in five years has made me begin to feel more comfortable with myself and with socialising, and I'm glad for that.

How are you all doing? Read/watched/listened to anything neat recently?

IT'S DESTROYING ME!!!

I can't be around her because it instantly depresses me. She's gorgeous, gets along with everyone, has a million and one friends, is professionally successful and is great at art. My nose is huge and I look like a gremlin when I smile, I have very few friends, it's hard for me to meet new people, and my art is sub-par.

But I know that's not true! I know I have value, and I'm good in a lot of other things, and I do have friends, and they care about me. I know these things consciously, but whenever I'm faced with her accomplishments, I feel like a loser, like the terrible sequel to a great movie, like the shitty second book of the series, I don't know. I need this to stop... It's destroying my relationship with her...

Good Mac Firefox/Safari addons/tips/tricks/advice?

I know some of you guys are better at computers than I am, so I'm asking here for any input. I'm having some troubles getting my browsers to be cooperative, and I'm looking for something - anything - to help. (And don't say anything along the lines of "get a new computer" or I will hunt you down and strangle you with your own entrails.)

I'm running OSX 10.6 on a relatively older MacBook Pro. I prefer Firefox because I have Adblock, Flashblock, Ghostery, and RAMback, all of which let me run it relatively smoothly - for the most part. The problem I'm having is mostly trying to use Tumblr - Firefox is updated enough so that tumblr does the "floating box" overlay for new posts, which consistently fucks up because my computer itself just isn't capable of handling it. (Mind, I don't have any other memory-hogging programs open - this is an issue specifically with this feature.) Additionally, it tends to bog itself down and lock up after a few days of having it open.

In order to avoid the tumblr problem, I switched over to Safari, which usually runs a bit smoother anyway because it's a native program, but I've only got Adblock for that, so I have some trouble loading pages with Flash and other non-blockable things. On the upside, it hasn't updated beyond its 10.6 compatibility, so it uses tumblr's (presumably) old posting style, which is a separate page and much easier to work with. The problem with this is that Safari has a tendency to just lock up if I have it open for too long. I don't know what causes it, and it doesn't even do the "webpages aren't responding" thing - it just rainbow wheels at me and makes me wait forever to load even a plain text page.

Presently, I'm forced to use both. I can use Firefox until it locks up, then I use Safari until it does the same, then switch back. But I prefer using Safari for tumblr, but I have to use Firefox for certain necessary sites (some bills I have to pay have sites not compatible with Safari, or at least my version of it). But I can't have both of them open at the same time for too long or my whole computer locks up.

So...at this point, I'm willing to try any legitimate tips or tricks or advice that doesn't involve me buying anything. I have no money and I just want to be able to not have to take ten minutes to do something that should only take two.
