But I also thought it was kinda odd that THIS MOVIE was the one that tumblr singled out.

I mean... why not The Hobbit or any of the other movies that are blindingly white?

I am happy that there is a movie whose main character has my name. I might go see it partly because of that. And because the characters are pretty.

Were there really that many people saying they were going to boycott the movie? Most of what I've seen is "I wish they weren't adding two more white princesses to the lineup but I still want to see it" and now they're gushing about the relationship between the girls.

I keep seeing people claim this. And yet...I saw and have seen more people upset about the gutting of female characters from the story, the fact that apparently women have to always be beautiful and therefore we are hard to animate, the fact that the two female leads look like fucking Rapunzel, and now I'm seeing a lot of pissed of artists and animators over all the shoddy animation.

I don't begrudge anyone enjoying a movie, whatever its problems, but gloating over the failure of anti-racist protest? How petty and sad.

The success of this movie makes me really happy. Not because I liked it (though I did).

But because it's a kick in the face to every Tumblr Social Justice Warrior who had to loudly proclaim that they were boycotting the movie because Racism and shit.

Way to go, Tumblr. Your internet activism accomplished exactly zero.

Hey, so... I don't get the racism complaints. At all. I understand being bummed that they changed the story (I like the Andersen version a lot more), and I can sort of understand the idea that with this basic plot, the movie could have been set elsewhere and had POC characters. But it's not like that was ever a plan for them? What's the logic here?

What did people who were boycotting it because of racism expect to happen if they were successful and the movie was a failure? That Disney would say "Gosh, if only we'd had some POC in this movie, then it would've done better at the box office. We'll be sure to fix that next time!"

Not that they'd say, "Gosh, I guess movies about relationships between women really don't interest people. We'll go back to focusing on romance and pushing male leads into the spotlight"?

Come on. We all know which one it would be.

I'm just pissed Tumblr was willing to boycott a movie that A.) passed the Bechdel test with flying colors and B.) was actually good. Every time a movie that stars mostly female characters bombs, I cringe a little because it might mean more passing off of female driven films because they're not as lucrative.

So yeah, fuck Tumblr.

I know we've been over this a zillion times, but I've been on Tumblr for two years and I see way more people complaining about wanky sjws here than I've ever met wanky sjws there.

So either I'm REALLY cut off from Tumblr SJWs or I missed something here...namely, racism.

Because on Tumblr, I saw a LOOOT of posts from people booing Disney and Pixar for the sexism of cutting out most of the female characters from the original story and adding in some unnecessary male ones. Though as far as I remember, most of those didn't even call for boycotts of the movie, just "write letters to Disney/Pixar/these people to let them know this is a shit thing to do".

And now I'm hearing all about how people are upset about racism in this movie, and I'm kind of wondering where the hell this is coming from.

Have...have I managed to somehow cut myself off that much from Tumblr SJWs? Am I really just following mature SJAs? I didn't even know that was possible! o.O
