One of the comments made me think about why I'm so afraid of this thing. The explanation given sounded reasonable, but it just failed to "click". Then I realized -- it's not that I was unable to figure out the root of it, it's that I was so preoccupied with the fear that the idea of digging for its roots didn't even cross my mind. (Unusually, seeing as I analyze just about everything.)

When I thought about it, I realized: it's not the possibility of not knowing that this thing is after me until it's got my jugular in its claws. It's the fact that no matter what, if I so much as glance at the wrong pixel, it's over. There is no way of stopping it. Not with an army, not with an ocean, not with a solid cubic mile of steel or concrete. Even if I inadvertently piss off someone in the real world who is smarter and stronger than me to the point where it would take a miracle to save me, the fact remains that an irate psychopath is physically capable of being evaded, stopped, or destroyed.

It's not the unknown I fear. It's inevitability.

From Books to TV Shows

What are some of your favorite childhood TV shows that in retrospect were a bit crazy (describe them as crazily as possible :P).

Mine are probably Rugrats, in which a group of small children somehow go on these dangerous adventures. Oddly DHS never takes notice even though their parents are CONSTANTLY losing them.

The second is probably Pokemon. Or that show where preteens leave home to travel the wilds and kidnap sentient beings. They then use them in dog fights to gain medals.

DW notification change?

a few weeks ago DW reset my notifications so my inbox started filling up. I don't really use my inbox, I just go straight to email. I was still getting the email notifs though.

A couple days ago, I fixed it, and then realized I wasn't getting email notifs.

So I went back and tried to re-enable email notifs. Still nothing. Looked back, and realized based on the way the boxes were arranged, that there didn't appear to be an option anymore for email notifs on comment threads.

Is this a new thing or......? I want my notifications back ;__;

Hi, beautifuls!

I recently picked up the re-release of the Sailor Moon manga and I absolutely love it! I'm on Vol. 4 right now and I've been watching the anime with it. I can't believe how different the anime is from the manga!

Just wanted to get this out there for discussion <3 I don't remember the anime too well (even if I did, I was a kid with completely different views), so nooo spoilers ^^

Also! There are these short stories and the Sailor V spin off. Would anyone recommend getting those as well? I'm curious to know where the short stories sit in the SM timeline?

ANYWAY, oblig question: favourite Sailor Scout + who are you most like?
My favourite is Mars but I am definitely Usagi D: I'm hyper, always hungry, ALWAYS sleeping, and a huge cry baby T_T

Mental-casting books

Do y'all get a mental cast going when you read things? Sometimes there are just particular actors that I envision in a character, but other times, I can lift an entire set of fandom characters and sort of sub their face and voice into what I'm reading.

Which is a loose segue into what I really want to talk about, but I figure the above can open the thread up for more conversations. Anyway:

So, my library is doing a Blind Date With A Book thing, where they've taken a selection of books, and put them in manilla envelopes with nothing but genre to label them. So whatever book you grab, it's like you're going on a blind date. I picked one that was Supernatural-Mystery and got "Secret Grave" by Charlaine Harris.

I didn't read any of the jacket information; I just opened to the first page and started reading. It's in first person, which I'm not always a fan of, and in this case, it made it really hard to cast the main character. Aside from a supernatural ability, the slate on them was pretty blank until half a chapter in.

Then I realized the main character had a brother who traveled with them, and I started to fill in the blanks with Sam and Dean Winchester. Then I found out the main character's brother was also their lover, and...nothing changed. In fact, I kind of got the giggles on the idea that Harris is a Wincest fan. (Then the main character turned out to be a girl, and her brother/lover was actually her step brother, and I'm debating if I should mentally keep a more femme version of Dean in my head or if River and Simon Tam might be the apt route. Will have to read more.

I don't know if this makes any sense. I don't read books like they're AU fanfics for other things, I just...see and hear those people.
