In addition to the master index I've got going on, I've decided to periodically put a few old secrets back to the limelight. Check it out after the games thread.

And not to stoke the "fandom secrets is dying!!" fire, I do find it interesting to note that September 2007 was a big month for us. The "Name That Fandom" thread was added and on the week of September 9, a 350-secret cap was placed on the submission post. And that still allowed for 50 secrets per post.

What is your saddest food, anons of fandom secrets?

My person has left for a few months and I'm having a bit of a sad. Which means I'm doing nothing for dinner but eating some cheese and crackers and salsa I made the other day.

Luckily I don't keep canned food around, or I might have resorted to cold baked beans or something equally sad.

A few years back, everyone seemed to think Angelina Jolie was the hottest. woman. ever. I couldn't see it. Her face was too gaunt and her mouth was too big (I admit she does have pretty eyes, though).

Same with Brad Pitt. Yawn.

George Clooney. Not that good looking and he always looks smug and arrogant (he may be a perfectly nice person - I'm not saying he IS smug and arrogant, but he sure looks like it).

Iggy Azalea. Her face looks strange. Maybe it's how she does her makeup or something. I feel like she SHOULD be pretty, but she just isn't.

Anyone you just don't "get?"

I obviously don't mean the "Wolfing down extra chunky fistfuls of their own shit" crazy, but slightly unhinged, troubled, a bit of derangement, a bit of obsession, maybe a bit of Bipolar or some MPD? Oh yes please.

None of these people are as hot when they are not insane. It is a fact.

Post a snippet from a fic that has a really good description of a character

Either by show (the snippet demonstrates the character's personality really vividly) or by tell (the narrative or a character's thoughts/dialogue describe a character really well).

Try to not make the snippet TOO long, but, say, a couple of paragraphs or so is pretty good.

I want to be a writer - but I hate revisions

So one of my problems is that as much as I love writing, it's hard for me to revise. Which... poses problems.

It's not a butthurt thing; I LIKE constructive criticism. It's just hard for me to spend time redoing things, especially if it's been a while since I've written something - and editors can take forever to respond. So.

How does one get over hating revisions?

My favorite is spring. The weather is moderate, but getting warmer rather than colder. The days get longer. You can gradually start wearing less heavy clothing. The flowers are pretty, and it's always nice to find the first crocus or daffodil blooming, or see the little sprouts poking up out of the snow. I associate it with happy feelings, because when I was a kid, school was winding down, and it felt like at the same time that the new year was beginning, the dreary and stressful parts of the old one were ending.

Fall has moderate weather too, but I always get depressed and I associate it with school starting and all the accompanying stress and anxiety. Plus everyone else loves it so by July everyone is going on and on about how they can't wait for fall while I'm just trying to forget that it's coming. Like if people went on about how they couldn't wait til Monday came every Saturday evening. So overrated, fall.

Audiobooks

Can anyone rec some of their favorite audiobooks (not podcasts). Either because of the plot or because of how awesome the reader is. Need something to listen to at the gym.

Play Bys for Roleplaying

So, while I have RPed for a while, I have never used a played-by or face claim picture for my characters, though other people I've played with have. This has got me to wondering who exactly is considered "acceptable" for using as a PB? Actors in movies and television? Fashion models, singers, well-known celebrities that don't necessarily fall under the above? Broadway stars? Whatever else I didn't think of?

And on a similar note, what are the acceptable sources of images for PBs? Is there a database of PB images for role play, or do people just use Google image search?

Question is mostly for my own curiosity; while I theoretically might consider using a PB someday, my original characters tend to be not conventionally attractive and finding accurate portrayals for them would be dicey at best. Especially the women.

When do original meanings fall away?

At what point does it seem fair to say a word's original meaning has fallen out of relevance today? There are two (technically three) big ones for me.

Gay: I don't think anyone who hears "gay" goes to "happy" anymore, unless they're watching Flintstones re-runs.

Hysterical/Histrionic: The first time I got dissed and dismissed for talking about somebody's histrionics, I was like WTF does that have to do with women? If I didn't know what a hysterectomy, I still wouldn't know why the fuck anyone gets butthurt on that one.

Games thread!

Game of Vauge Debates.

The aim of the game is simple, have a debate, but have no idea what on. When you reply you have to counter one of the points, and all replies must be in the stye of a sort of commentary on the thing that is being debated.
For example:
Person 1: Comment stating the name of a favorite game.
Person 2: Comment arguing that game is bad, citing a badly thought out plot and myriad glitches.
Person 3: Counter that the glitches of the game are part of the joy of the game.
e.t.c.

Yes, you literally type like that.

So, to begin, let's say:

"Statement that author of series clearly doesn't do their research."

Fandom Secrets Revisited #2

All secrets in this post were still live when I saved them. If a secret is yours, and you don't want it here, delete it from your hosting site, and leave a comment here (anon if you like). When I've confirmed it's gone from the original secret, I'll delete it from mine. I know that probably seems like a lot of work, but unfortunately, given the anonymous nature of secrets, I can't just take any anon at their word when they say "That was mine, please delete."

But really, wouldn't it be more fun, OPs, if you popped back in with an update? If you've been here from the start, it's been seven years. Do you still feel the same and find it secret-worthy, or has time changed your mind or made the once scandalous seem tame?
