As for me, I'm still working on the yard though I've gotten a lot of weeding and pruning done in the past few weeks, and I'm about ready to move on to the real work of installing a stone patio (provided I can find some free stone inserts to work with).

I'm also going to see about putting up a hanging basket and making a windowbox herb garden for the back deck. ...Which I still need to stain, so that will be done in a while.

Graphics Question

I want to promote my fic on tumblr by making one of those 2x4 or 2x5 grid graphics. The ones I've seen seem to be random images that reflect the fic (and often have a slight color scheme) but I was wondering if there was more of an art to them than it appears. (I can't make gifs or draw art.)

Does anyone have any tips for making this kind of thing? Or some other still-photo type of promotion? I'm open to any suggestions. Feel free to offer examples of promotional tumblr posts that have peaked your interest in the past.

Our border collie, Rex died some time last night. We noticed he wasn't looking well a few days ago, and had a vet appointment scheduled for him today. Mom found him dead when she went to check on him this morning. The only thing we can think is he got into something none of the other animals were interested in since this came on so quick and nothing else got sick at all.

The most heart breaking thing for me is seeing how Mom's Shih tzu, Chewy is reacting to this. Those dogs were so close, and Chewy just does not understand why he can't find Rex anywhere.

I'm not particularly worried about this medically, but I wanted to know how common it is.

So my boobs started coming in when I was around nine, formally landed around 11, and generally firmed up by 20 into a nice B-Cup, which was a surprise because I never expected any breasts at all, being small and skinny.

Now I'm 26 and suddenly at least one of them started growing. Lefty started blowing out of its bra cup, and I think righty is slightly bigger too. It's more noticeable during my period especially with lefty -- like I've gone up a cup size. The rest of the time I might not have noticed but none of my several years worth of summer dresses are fitting anymore. So I'm not imagining it, my bust is expanding and the rest of me isn't, and I just don't understand why. I was always told that boobs stop growing in your early twenties and usually only make a change after that due to pregnancy or major weight gain. This seems oddly late...has anyone else bloomed (or rebloomed) this late? I feel like a fanfic character that's coming back from Summer with Curves In All The Right Places -- it's that preposterous.

(Incidentally, their names are not Lefty and Righty, that's just something I used to make them seem anonymous. Like the people published about in Dear Abby.)

Addressing people by name in casual conversations

It used to throw me off a lot when two characters talking by themselves would say each other's names for no apparent reason (e.g., not introduction scene, not getting their attention, not emphasising, not quoting or using third-person for effect). It felt like a really obvious writing ploy to remind the audience who they were. I understood it's not necessarily a bad thing, though it bothered me in stuff like short fics with just the two characters, or screenplays with all-around stiff writing.

Then I decided to listen for people doing that IRL. I found they did that more than I thought was 'realistic'. And I looked at my own habits, and thought maybe that's a reason I'm bad at conversations, because I don't address people by name except in the situations I listed above. And I vaguely recall reading a study done somewhere that calling people by name has positive effects, kind of like another study about waiters who tap customers on their shoulders getting more tips.

So, TL;DR:

1. How do you feel when two characters by themselves address each other by name?

2. Do you often address other people by name even when it's not necessary?

Personality Traits Meme/Game

Okay so I've done this in a class setting before and it seemed to work well. I'm hoping it will work here. Basically there's going to be a bunch of prompts of character traits and people respond to them y explaining from the point of view of someone with that trait what it's like to have it , why, what motivates it and that kind of thing.

A few rules
1.) Please Speak Only for yourself or your experiences with that trait- I don't mean to stifle opinions but the object of it is to explore and explain the perspective of people who have these traits to build understanding. It's not "oh I HATE people who are like this,they drive me nuts. From a psychological point of view it can help you understand people who may have different traits than you and maybe for some of the writers it may help you in writing a character with a trait you may not have or understand.

2.) This is a place to explain thought processes. if a trait is negative , we're not (hopefully) trying to justify or "make excuses'

3.) The prompts here are personality traits not actions (murderer /rapist) or mental disorders/conditions. Things like "vain", "fanatical", "shy" , "outgoing" . If this is successful I may try another one with people explaining what it's like to have disorders like "bipolar disorder" and "autism" , if that isn't too wankbaity.

4.) Don't feel like you can't say something if someone already has. In fact the more people to give perspectives on something the better!

Here's hoping this goes well.
