If they like pineapple, a pineapple corer. As a lover of pineapple, it is nice to be able to have a fresh pineapple prepared in about 30 seconds.

Socks. Scarves. Cool bottle openers. Blank sketchbooks/journals- I never write in them, so I strongly prefer unlined.

Possibly lotion or soaps, but some people are particular about scents they like, or have very sensitive skin.

I know a guy who likes mushrooms, and he told me that if you see a bunch of dog stinkhorn(mutinus caninus or mutinus elegans) mushrooms, you can find an "egg" - an immature stage of the mushroom, which the stinkorn will come out of. If you take the egg and plant it in someone's flowerpot, it will spout a bunch of dog stinkhorns.

Chocolate. I'm always happy to see chocolate in my stocking. Chapstick/makeup sorts of things, earrings (I like the cheep ones that are dangly). A nice card that is personalized is always great in my mind. Get one you know they'll love and then say some really personal things in it. That always makes me happy and I always have fun picking out the perfect cards for people.

Fic trends in fandom

Are there any fic trends that you've noticed seem to be especially prevalent in certain fandoms? Are you a fan of said trends or do you hate them?

Example: gender bending happens in just about every fandom, but there was (is?) a TON of it in the Hobbit fandom. So much fem!bilbo, my god. It was so prevalent on the kink meme, that many prompters would preemptively add "no female bilbo please" to their prompts because there was about a 50% chance that someone would be like "can I fill this with girl!bilbo?" otherwise
