I did a find and replace for the names in some RPF. I changed their names to their characters names and read it as an AU.

A long time ago, I created an Original Character Appreciation community, because OCs tended to be looked down on in my fandom. (All fandoms, really.)

Most of the people who posted wrote the biggest Mary Sues ever. /Awkward

I regret nothing about my fandom involvement in high school and college, I wouldn't have met some of the most important people in my life, but I sometimes wonder if I would've had a better social life if I hadn't had the internet to fall back on. I'm glad I was in fandom, but it became a crutch, not one of many things I did.

I also would've had better grades.

I enjoy fanfic, I write it myself, but I cannot take anyone who tries to claim that it's better than published writing seriously.

There are absolutely good writers in fandom, but 95% of us are not. We're writing easily digestible ID fic, and there's nothing wrong with that, but it's not the same as coming up with an original setting, characters, and plot. And in all honestly fanfic is every bit as derivative as mainstream works, just in different ways so that it can almost seem like we're somehow better than those silly and unimaginative published writers.

Its a good place to start-out and learn, but it's not some hidden bastion of untapped talent. Writing original stuff is hard, a lot harder than fanfic in my opinion.

The Captive Prince series was so fucking terrible and I still don't understand why it was gushed over so much. Tho I may just be bitter about it since a fandom friend used to make fun of a series I liked because it was 'awful' and 'so bad' yet she raved over those piece of shit books like they were anything other than thin veneer for a rape-to-love story.

Other fanfic writers are always telling me they can't control what their characters do. I cannot relate at all. My characters do what I decide they will do.

I wish Disney could get rid of Ike Perlmutter. I love Marvel and the MCU, but it’s reaching the point where I don’t know if I can go spend money to see Captain Marvel or Avengers 4 or really any money on Disney if it means I’m indirectly giving money to support his hasshattery.

I know ousting him won’t solve all of Disney’s issues but goddamn he’s such fucking trash. Unfortunately he’s a majority stockholder so the only way he’s leaving Disney is when he dies.

In the past, when I was a bit younger and a lot more spiteful, I would have gotten so angry that a character I fell in love with also garnered the attention and love of an ex-friend with whom I parted on bad terms.

However, when a new game for a fandom I love came out and I found out my ex-friend absolutely adores the same boss character I do, I got that smug satisfaction that at least I don't have to make a self-insert Mary Sue who wants him specifically for her boyfriend while I'm secure enough in my love of the character that instead of needing to throw myself at him, I'm happier writing from the perspective of my favorite beautiful ice-skating precious frozen cinnamon roll.

Hey, former friend. Don't think I don't remember you making fun of bronies for liking a show not meant for them and ridiculing them for finding value in the "friendship lessons" on that show. Guess what? You're doing the exact same thing with Steven Universe. And bigs surprise: A 30-something only now learning about behaving decently towards other people from a show aimed at children doesn't get any less pathetic just because she's female. (Pathetic was a word you used a lot in regards to bronies, so yeah, right back at ya.)
