i'm a little bit in this place, too. all of the fandoms i like enough to naturally want to create fanworks for are kind of at a lull now. and i'm content w it. i sometimes even enjoy that things are a bit quieter now. but it's definitely different than the majority of my life in fandom spaces that i was rly used to!

Is it Reno? Fandom seems to have decided that he's just a fun loving quirky chill dude a long time ago. Though the Advent Children movie certainly helped this along.
In general, a lot of the Turks have been woobified/changed to comic relief characters/whitewashed (character-wise) in fandom a lot, not that that's surprising. All the different compilation canons are fairly inconsistent about them as well though.

Yes thank you! I've been wondering the same, especially with this artist. I think its pretty racist to constantly blackwash Asian characters. And sure, there are darker skinned Chinese people but there almost always are certain patterns when it comes to who those fanartists choose to darken and who they don't.

I'm sick of grimdark magical girl anime too, but even before PMMM, there wasn't a whole lot of new magical girl content coming out, so I don't think it's the grimdark shows' fault that that's all there is anymore. Magical girl stuff had already lost a lot of popularity, and PMMM revived it but only worked because it was a new spin on it. Maybe in a few more years people will start to want deconstructions of the deconstructions and we'll start to see more happy magical girl shows again.
