As halloween is coming up, an ideal time to traumatise each other, I was wondering- know any scary stories which involve something we all use: the internet?

I found this one, and true or not it's pretty chilling and well put together. (Some swearing and I think I saw one comment with a slur in the video itself?).

Insults of Endearment

I come from a very warm and loving immigrant family. But recently I realized that if someone were to take a transcript of our conversations with each other (and translated parts of it), they would think what's going on is emotional abuse. For example, my dad calls my mom what translates to "big fat animal" and she calls him by the name of her neighbor's dog when she wants to tease him and make him to something. They also kid each other about being fat all the time.

To me, my father constantly calls me fat (which is a joke because I'm skinny as a spaghetti -- my older sister was obese in childhood and he never ever called her fat until after she'd lost a significant amount of weight and was about the same size as me), asks me if he should go beat up my mother or me (and my standard response is, "I'll beat you up first", and no, no one in my family has ever laid a hand on each other), and ever since I hit puberty he's teased me by calling me his language's equivalent of "titties", and I called him that language's equivalent of "big fat gut".

He also likes to call me piglet or puppy. (About as much as he calls me "sweetheart" and "my baby", which is often.) I want to be perfectly clear, none of any of these things are said outside the family, or in anger. It's all in a teasing affectionate tone. But since no one else ever hears any of us do it, I can only assume that if other people do it to, they're hiding it. So TL:DR, F!S, does your family use insults and insulting terms affectionately?

Just wanted to complain to somebody. I went to Maths Olympics recently and got not bad but an outright disastrous results. The fact that I'm a very successful student, love Maths and have been always considered smart by everybody doesn't exactly help. It can be really hard when everyone expects you to perform brilliantly... always. Everywhere. When everything you've got is your bloody brain, and your greatest fear is diseases which include intellectual degradation.

I've also never been particularly beautiful and I have the weirdest personality ever+I usually behave like a complete asshole, failing to realise it. That is, I think that I behave normally, and then BADABUM everybody is offended and weirded out.

So my brains is the only worthy part of me.

tldr: I have a hardest fit of overachiever syndrome.

Don't live like this. It's unhealthy.

What really happens on the Shit Stream

Y'all probably know what the Shit Stream is by now. For the new initiates, Shit Stream is a video streaming of shitty movies with live riffing and commentary by F!S users. The live chat automatically censors certain words, which leads to creative ways to defeat the censor.

This isn't all that happens though. Sometimes the Shit Stream results in truly horrible yet awesome things. Like the following exchange:

Is your OTP the couple you're most obsessed with?

Do you call the couple you're most obsessed with your OTP, or can your OTP be another couple that you don't really obsess over but which you objectively like even more than the couple you obsess over? I don't know how to properly communicate my love for a particular pairing in my fandom -- I want to call it my OTP, but I feel like that will give the wrong message since most of my fannish participation centers around squeeing about an entirely different couple.

Sadly the majority of Marvel/DC comics are fanfic. So.... yep. It's fanfic. It's the same sorts of plots that appeal to the writers and inconsistent characterization and all of that.

Look for one-author stuff. Like Transmetropolitan. Just... damn. Transmet's probably one of The Best comics I've ever read for the way the art and writing work together. Though it is fairly dark and raw.

The other possibility is to look for self-contained arcs or books. I'll warn you, it's hard as hell! Comics freakin' love to have more cameos and guest stars than a 8th season sitcom.

Me - I'm in Connecticut. I can't decide if waiting for it to come is actually worse than the actual storm or if it just feels that way. It's not supposed to get bad here until sometime between 9am and noon and it's only just 6:30am now. But I've got food and water in case the power goes out and books to read so I won't be bored.
