I never see SJW stuff on my tumblr dash but I know that tumblr has a lot of insane SJWs. F!S just has a hivemind that evolves every few weeks, but is never extreme*.

Honestly, how the heck is this community crazy? I mean, there's a handful of trolls, and some petty and snide anon arguments. But I'm sorry, you're obviously a troll. Most people here are more or less genuine, and reject the crazy stuff. In fact, I dare say most people here are relatively civil and well-meaning, except in the case of a fandom or social justice argument.

Tumblr is, at best, average. It's only belittled as the "LOL wurst websight evar" because its userbase is mostly young females. I already wrote about this a couple days ago, so I'm just going to C+P it here with a few minor grammatical/spelling corrections:

Everything that's popular with almost exclusively females, especially teenage females, is universally shat upon. Sure, 50 Shades and Twilight aren't classic literature, but FSoG is one of the first mainstream erotic novels depicting a BDSM relationship (albeit an inaccurate one), and the Twilight Saga is one of the first popular novel series that objectified male characters just as much as the female characters (and the movies had actual Native American actors playing Native American characters instead of whitewashing them like a certain sci-fi movie that everyone seems eager to defend, even on Tumblr). Hell, certain shows that shall remain unnamed have been canceled because their viewership was mostly girls rather than the boys they were marketed toward. Tumblr has a very strange and at times impossible format and the same subset of crazy users that every website has, but damn if it isn't refreshing to finally be able to call people out on their shit without being roasted under an immediate deluge of 'not all ___ are like that!!1!' or 'they weren't being my idea of __ist so it doesn't count.'

Teal deer says, 'Tumblr is no different than any other website other than the fact that it's populated largely by teenage girls, therefore it must be a piece of shit.'"

I can't think of anyone here I'd call an "insane SJW" besides the anon trolls that dethtoll mentioned but idk maybe you think I'm one of them. But I do roll my eyes when people talk about tumblr like it's somehow worse than any other online community. The issue with tumblr I think is that discussions about a thing don't actually go away. On f!s, we can have a thread, and everybody sees the whole thread, and a conversation/argument/shitstorm is had. We might link to and make references to it on another day, people might form opinions about other people and be like "Ugh you always say this kind of thing and I always disagree with you!" but for the most part, that particular argument is over. On tumblr... an old post can resurface at random, and every time it does, new people will see it. And usually, they'll be seeing different versions of it, with new stuff added or removed or changed, depending on who reblogged it.

Sometimes this can be really neat, like that post about how the only flower language they knew was about love and junk, and they wanted a way to say meet me at the docks at midnight with a bouquet of flowers". Someone who knew a lot about flower language eventually found that and added instructions on how to do just that, with links to more resources. Other times? Half of us already saw that post and got angry about it, or did some quick fact checking and found out it was all lies. The rest have never seen it before and are OUTRAGED and have to message the OP RIGHT AWAY to tell them how wrong they are, and tons more people reblog it adding their wordy opinions and nobody sees them because of reblogging. Meanwhile the OP is dogpiled because nobody actually bothered to look at their blog and see that they apologized or that the actual original poster deleted and they stole the username and turned it into a Cory in the House blog...it's a stupid vicious cycle that has more to do with the setup of tumblr than the actual users, who are pretty much the same wherever you go.

I figure it's where you roll but even in my more mature fandoms, I've basically given up on scrolling Tumblr because every 3 seconds, somebody posts some ragefest thing about how, I don't know, the lead writer of XXXX should quit because he's a cis male and shouldn't write female characters or exploitation. Those attractive gif sets are not worth the piss off value of some crazy spouting angry tirades because, say, Ichabod Crane didn't address Abbie as "Mistress Abbie" and some stupid bullshit.

Dude, I love my little corner of tumblr, but there are places on that site far far crazier than anything here. Around here people argue about issues that at least exist oustide of the internet, even if you think they're trivial.
Just accept that when a site has 172 million blogs there are guaranteed to be entire worlds of it that you are unaware of.

Yanno, at least for the part of Tumblr that I was on? That's very true.

You could relax there, not worry that someone was going to read something into what you said and find it problematic. As long as you don't say anything ignorant or offensive, you're fine. And it wasn't like there wasn't any social issues there, there were some good stuff, but there was never any drama.

Come back to lj or f/s, it's policing every word you type if it involves anything social. Will this offend someone? is not a question I ever have to worry about when I'm on Tumblr.

People on FS are actually a hell of a lot more tolerant compared to the SJW on tumblr :/

I think as far as fandom goes tumblr has been one of the best places for getting completely exposed to everything in the fandom. True some of it is bad, but there is also a lot of good. Most of my fandoms are completely dead everywhere else and yet tumblr is consistently active with fanfic, art, discussion, and character analysis meta.

I don't get why people act like it's some kind of hellhole, when it's actually very easy to just filter out what you don't want to see. Follow blogs of people whose insight you like and blogs that post stuff you like, and just block the people you don't wanna see. Blacklist keywords of stuff you don't wanna see.

Once you find your nice little corner tumblr is an amazing place. If you want to be connected and informed to every little thing in your fandom and if you like meta, then tumblr is a good fandom hub.

I don't think that at all. In fact I think the people of F!S are often too quick to jump on posters/opinions, calling them SJWs. Sure, some people go way too far with SJ ideas, and there are definitely some overzealous people on Tumblr, but I've seen people with ideas about SJ/representation getting called out for being SJW, when their points were actually reasonable. And I've seen fringe outliers that most people tend to ignore (unless trolling) brought up here as "OMG the SJWs are so terrible and everywhere on Tumblr! Look vwhat they're doing now! Aren't we so much better than them! And this totally means we can ignore all SJ posts/issues because they are all like this person!"

It has gotten so I refuse to comment unanon on any subject (such as female characters/minorities in SPN) that even hints that it might deal with SJ issues, as I don't want to be dogpiled.

Ok, I'll agree that F!S has it's own really weird brand of SJW and an odd hivemind or clique mentality, but to say it's crazier than the crazies on Tumblr is just....crazy. Just leads me to thinking you haven't seen that much of the crazy over on Tumblr.
