Considering how much young adult media (at least back in the Animorph days, today is more supernatural oriented) used animals as characters or symbols, it isn't that odd your favorite fiction had a large focus on animals.

But I'm going to say that I'm okay with fandom feeling protective about and identifying with black female characters, it makes for a refreshing change. Especially since it's not like this ONLY happens to black female characters.

You say that, but Teen Titans Go or whatever it is literally is a parody of the original. The characterization doesn't make sense and what made the original good is lost beneath endless stupid jokes. At least Crystal stays true to characterization.

That's called "filking," anon, and it happens at conventions all the time. You should get involved. To be fair, most of the people who do it can't sing either, but they seem to have tons of fun anyway.

Does the con have an images gallery or facebook? You could scope out whether there is a lot of cosplay of non anime characters. Or just go this year without cosplaying to check out if it is worth cosplaying there, or email the con-organizer and see what the non anime cosplay is like, or cosplay as the nearest anime equivalent of your character if there is one. Personally, I think you are right to worry and not just con-crash in US costume, if the con is very anime focused then it would be rude and antagonistic to the other goers, but there are ways of checking it out first.

What could Thor have done differently? I agree Odin was a bad parent (not abusive, you don't have to be abusive to be bad), but Loki was still dead set on ruling even though he was so caught up in himself he would be terrible.

Demona made her own bed, it is no action of Goliath's that led her to doing it.

Ramses, likewise, made his own choices and refused to let the slaves go. Moses was initially trying to support him at every step and actually helped him get numerous chances from his father.
