Inspired by secret #6. Which author/s would you like to channel in your writing? Do you actively try to achieve elements of their style?

I actually wish I could write more like Tolkien. Mostly because description is probably the thing I'm least able to write well and he was really good at that. And also I can't seem to write long things.

For me, I'd probably like to write like a combination of Stephen King, Kafka, and Tolstoy.
Kafka for the weirdness, Tolstoy for the in-depth world and flights of philosophy, and Stephen King for readability and popularity.
...I don't know if any of this is actually achievable, though 8D Just trying to write like Kafka or Tolstoy is probably insane, let alone a weird combo of them both.

I've tried writing inspired by P.G. Wodehouse, and it was pretty freaking difficult, though a very satisfying challenge. I haven't yet posted the fic (I'm stalling on finishing two scenes... ugh), but I'm curious how it'll be received.

Anyone who has created a world that people love delving into. I get so jealous of authors who get fans having really indepth discussions of their worlds.

I don't know about the style of the writing itself though. I like doing stuff inspired by Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler so sometimes I'll channel them a bit. Overall I don't really have anyone that I aspire to be like. I still hold onto a compliment I got from an English professor years ago who told me that I have a distinct style that is entirely my own.

Maybe Scott Lynch? I love how seamlessly he weaves in his worldbuilding, and how as a reader you understand all these things about his world without being spoonfed. Or maybe a bit like Donna Tartt. And a little bit of Murakami's surrealism.

Two authors in particular- JK Rowling and Hiromu Arakawa. Mostly because I like their worldbuilding and the general story structure. I always felt like Fullmetal Alchemist gave off a sense that the world was much bigger than the main cast or even the main characters.

Harry Potter has a lot of fun magicky stuff and possibilities. And I feel like they would balance out each other's flaws.

I'm feeling extremely stressed out. As a result, I feel like I'm spending LESS time doing the work I need to do, and more time procrastinating because I feel stressed when I do the work. What's your strategy?

Real Mysteries and Magic

I love reading about ghosts, magic, and such. Mostly because I love the idea that there could be mystery like that in the world. But really....there probably isn't anything like that.

Are there any scientific mysteries that exist? I assume most of it would like...physics related. Or how about things that are basically like magic because science can't explain them.

Amazing or Terrible Scenes in movies (SPOILERS)

What are some amazing scenes in movies you hate or terrible scenes in movies you love?

For a great scene in a terrible movie, I have to point to the opening of Ghost Ship. What a fantastically shocking start to a horror movie. Sadly it did not carry into the rest of the movie.

For a terrible scene, I am going with two from The Dark Knight Rises. The first is the Robin name drop. I just wish they had been a bit more subtle. The second was the final scene. They really should have cut away without showing Batman (just Alfred smiling).

tumblr infinite scrolling

Does anyone happen to know how to disable infinite scrolling on the search result pages?

I've disabled it on the "settings" section, but it only seems to work for my dashboard, and not for actually searching through tumblr for specific tags.
