Well, had to get gas guys out because we were smelling something weird. Found out we got a carbon monoxide leak. Gas guy told us we were really lucky. So next week will be spent being cold as hell and getting quotes on a new furnace. Sounds like another loan in my future. ;_;

Pretty good! I got lots of sleep which is awesome because I've been pretty sleep-deprived the past couple weeks. Did some reading yesterday, watched a few shows, played some games, and just generally hung around and relaxed. I've just been looking at stuff online since I woke up from my nap about half an hour ago. I think I'm going to go get something to eat and then maybe watch something (not sure what yet) or read.

Shit, I'm glad you caught it, I hope it doesn't run up too much of a cost! I'd probably buy a few extra CO detectors just in case!

Mine was alright, not too busy. I somehow slept through my parents testing all our smoke alarms, which is probably not a good thing.

Yikes, sorry! I hope you manage to find someone who does good work for reasonable prices.

My weekend is so-so, so far. Worked my last day at one location yesterday, have today off, switching to a new, shorter commute location tomorrow. I’m gonna miss my coworkers; not only were they nice, they also all hate Trump.

Just gave up on an online prop auction for one of my fandoms that had a bunch of “mystery items” listed; I assumed that when bidding went live the items on offer would show, but nope. There are only a couple of costumes and maybe one prop from the show that I’d drop an entire paycheck on, and if they were up for auction, I’d likely be instantly outbid.

At least I got a pile of dishes done and the floor scrubbed while I watched the bidding, but now I’ve gotta go do laundry and make work lunches for the week.

Didn't go to class. Only got a bit of work done so far. I think I'm going to have to make a doctor's appointment. I've spiked a fever and my face looks visibly swollen. I'm thinking this might not be just a cold and might be a sinus infection. Joy. Mostly just rested and watched Whose Line all day. going to take a nap for a few hours and then get more work done hopefully. Stuff has to be done by tomorrow morning. And I still have to get the trash together and bring it out. Ugh. All I want to do is sleep. I'm dosed up on benadryl and cough medicine, but they are only helping a tiny bit. Heating pad on my head feels nice, but can only have that on for so long.

Cruddy. Was out walking my dog and he got attacked by a neighbor's Husky who slipped away from its owner and grabbed him by the neck. We took him to the vet who said he should be okay but he's got some wounds on his neck and he's been pretty lethargic the whole day, and I'm still feeling shaky and sick over it. Fuck people who buy large dogs and don't train them properly.

My weekend has been great so far! Today was spent playing phone games (mostly Onmyoji) and FFXIV, while doing a bit of home repair. Last week was absolutely (my mom's dog ate something he shouldn't have, resulting in surgery, resulting in $2k-3k vet bills that I'm footing) so I'm so glad today has been nice. ;3; I'm off tomorrow but I'll be picking the dog up so. Fingers crossed it still manages to be a good day. ;;

Not bad. I got exactly one window (out of a minimum of 4, maximum of 7) covered in plastic for the winter. I only did one partly out of lazyness, but also partly as an experiment to see 1) if I could actually put the plastic over the weird blinds that stick out a lot (pulled up so my windows aren't permanently dark all winter, but I still have curtains for privacy) without the plastic just getting holes poked in it, and 2) if it would keep condensation from forming on the window. Successful on both fronts, so now I need to slowly move through the house, dehumidifying each room and covering the windows. I had wanted to try outside plastic, but the manufacturer suggests doing that when its still above 50 F, and we're having an unusually cold fall and it's been in the 30s and 40s instead, and also rainy.

I don't think I have seasonal affective disorder, per se. But I hate seeing the days get shorter and colder. I miss wearing shorts and going barefoot! If I was a millionaire, that'd be one of my indulgences...traveling around the world and avoiding winter.

How about you guys? Do you love fall/winter or hate it?

Summer is definitely my favorite, fall is probably second, but I don't hate winter. I mean, I don't love it, but I don't hate it. Despite people telling me it's OMG IMPOSSIBLE, I'm actually less bothered by the cold as I've gotten older.

I do really like the holiday season (starting with Halloween!) but ouside of that I'm pretty neutral I guess?

I adore fall and winter! I live for the night so the shorter days don't bother me, and the changing colour of the leaves is always so pretty!
If I have seasonal affective disorder it would definitely be in the spring/summer. Spring is so wet and dreary and smells like worms, and I'm constantly miserable in the summer since I can't stand being hot.

I am someone who is frequently cold, in doors, while wearing a long sleeve t-shirt under a thick sweater. My genetics fucking hate me or something. So no, the only season I truly enjoy is summer.

If I lived somewhere where Fall was dry and crisp, and where “cooler weather” meant, like, 15C/59F in late October, then that might be nice. But where I live, Fall is wet, and often dark with cloud cover, and more like 5C/41F by late October, which is just way too cold for my liking.

I also don’t mind dry, snowy winters, where the light bounces off the snow and makes even the dark feel bright. Give me -4C (just cold enough to be dry and for the snow to be fluffy). But wet, slushy winters are the worst, and where I live, wet, slushy winters are the ONLY type of winters.

Autumn is my favorite season, but Winter is my second favorite. I love cold weather. I actually hate being hot. We're actually getting semi-cold weather here in San Antonio this year, and I have been loving it most of the past few weeks. Since I've spiked a fever, though, I've been feeling cold, so I cranked the heat up. But the rest of the time I've been enjoying the 45=60 degree weather we've had the past month. It has been great.

Add me to the "love" pile. I like the changing leaves in fall, I like snow (and I especially like having it at Christmas, it just doesn't feel the same without it), I like the holiday season, my birthday's in the fall, which is nice, and I like the cooler/colder weather in general. It doesn't need to be bitterly cold, no, but I still prefer cooler temperatures over sweating it out in the summer. And spring can bring severe thunderstorms and tornadoes where I live (Iowa), so fall and winter are a good break in that regard, too. Not to say that sort of thing can't ever happen this time of year, of course-it can and has-but it'd be an exceedingly rare event if it did.

Plus, I'm an indoors-y sort in general. Fall and winter provide the perfect opportunity and reason to stay in.

Unpopular non-fandom opinions

A relative has recently stepped up her Facebook posting for a lot of strong, tumblr-like advocating for people who suffer from depression, introverts, etc. She's been in therapy and is on antidepressants and I know she's had a tough time. We've talked about it because I have similar issues.

But then she posts about how self medicating with weed and vaping is sooooo therapeutic for her and implies that it's unreasonable and judgemental to think otherwise and...well, I think otherwise. I do side eye people who claim they NEED to smoke weed for their anxiety. I'm not saying that it never helps with anxiety, but I think it's bullshit to act like you wouldn't smoke it if you weren't anxious because ffs, just admit you like it. It's weed, not insulin.

We're not in a state where it's legal, btw. She has kids. Bragging about this on your public FB is really stupid, almost as if you're over indulging with a substance that impairs your judgement, hmmm...

What Point Do I go to the Doctor?

FS, I need advice. I've gotten different advice from different people in my life, so I need help.

So at this point I've been sick for 8 days. Slight fever (100.9). Swollen face from my completely stuffed and painful sinuses. Thick mucus. Taking cough medicine, mucus thinner, and antihistamine, but only slightly helping. Had to take my inhaler several times. Throat sore and irritated. Dizzy.

My sister said this has been long enough that I should see a doctor. Mom says the fever isn't high enough for it to be bacteria and I should just wait the virus out.

Normally I would probably take mom's advice and just wait it out. But it keeps getting worse rather than better. Every day I feel a little worse. Which makes me wonder. But if it is a virus, doc can't do anything. I don't know.

My condolences, op. My advice is to allow yourself some time to grieve the end of the relationship, but try not to go down those spirals where you try to analyze everything and beat yourself up about how and why it went wrong. Friendships end for many reasons. Be kind to yourself, engage in self care, but also find a productive way to spend some of your time, too.
