FWIW, Pluto was my favorite, too. Although, it had much more to do with Pluto being my actual favorite planet (back when we called it one) than it did my actual opinion of the characters. Bright side was that no one fought me for her when we'd play games at recess (everyone wanted to be Serena).

This ship on SG-1 is a great example of what I'd love for more shows to do. It was just subtle enough for my taste and not overt (/lazy) about their roles. I hate "then the awesome kickass lady sacrifices her career or reputation to get the D from her boss/CO" tropes. I was so glad to not deal with that on this show.

I think it would be fun to get a cosplay group together and just make something up and when people ask, just say, with complete sincerity, "This is from [made-up thing.]"

That said, I think the three on the left are from Sherlock, but I don't know if the two on the right are.

It's hard to explain all the hate without having been there for it, and I don't care to relitigate the queerbaiting debates. And it's also hard to explain it in the sense that it's hard for me personally to understand how someone would like it this much in the first place, because for me, it's absolutely full of flaws that are largely papered over by the charm of the leading actors.

I think one important thing is that it was absolutely not perceived, promoted, and engaged with as something silly, over the top and WTF at the time. People were absolutely dead serious about thinking it was brilliant, prestige-level, intelligent television. And it's really, really not those things. As a mystery series that's supposed to be taken seriously, it's laughable on all kinds of levels.

Also, I hated what the show did to Irene Adler and always will. Couldn't stand that episode at all.

Really? I haven't seen the series yet but I have such a hard time thinking of Gilbert as mature, I'll always just think of him as the asshole who called Anne 'carrots'.
