Even before I knew what fandom was, my sister and I quoted Walter all the time (and still called him "Chevron Guy" even after we learned his name - which I believe the actual name was also a fan invention?) because he's just such an important yet mundane feature of so many episodes.

I'm not surprised the actor embraced it and is really cool about it. From what little I'd seen of him in cast interviews etc he seemed nice.

I agree 100%.

People are so quick to forget their excitable childhood/teen forays into online fandom or the things you did creatively and look down on the new generation making that same kind of art. I mean, I made Escaflowne music videos with a VCR set-up back in the 90s. Sneer all you like, but 12 year old me learned a lot of skills that summer and most importantly, I had fun.

That IS why you're doing it and you just admitted that. But for the most part, at this point in time, that's NOT why people do it, and most people aren't going to assume that's why you're doing it. So IDK.

(I write a lot of sex swap where it turns into het, and I usually don't do it unless I'd also write/read slash for the same pairing. The only one I haven't so far, it's because it's a pairing I don't actually like, it's not supposed to be romantic. He's in love with her, but she's a honey trap growing increasingly horrified by what a creep he is).

Unrelated: yesterday my mother used the term 'tinhatter' in regards to QAnon, and I told her the term originates from the 2002 film "Signs" which I saw in the theatre. I feel powerful for being old enough to have been part of history.

Otoh, my best friend, whom I saw Signs with, just called me "Cypher, who chose the Matrix over truth," and she believes that the vaccine is "the mark of the beast" so I guess being 40+ can be both good and bad.
