My husband RPs with me and I adore it, and I do things for him that don't turn me on but that he likes. But still, when it comes to sex it's important to be able to have personal boundaries. If you really do feel uncomfortable, don't do it, and your girlfriend should understand.

Now that we've gotten that out of the way, and I really need to make it clear that personal boundaries are totally okay, I do think you should think about your reasons, and I have some further comments regarding those based on the phrasing of the secret. I can't help but feel like "lol somebody needs to get over themselves" if the problem is you're too inhibited to ever be silly and ridiculous in bed. RPing is about acting and pretending. Who cares if her weight, hair, gender, and height is wrong for the part? You're not putting on a play in front of a packed house. It's just the two of you, right?

Second: I can sort of understand the frustration (or both of you).

I have issues with sexy role play because I'm just not capable to take myself seriously when doing it and I just want to burst into laughter.
Second, yes, I can see how a very different appearance would take you out of the fantasy.
But realize that, to her, it might be frustrating that she has a body that is not good for the role play that would turn HER on.

I'm 5'9", so in that sense I could pretend to be a guy - but my hips and ass are a dead giveaway. Which is sort of infuriating, because I think it would totally be awesome to roleplay a guy sometimes.

I don't really understand the roleplay fetish, in general.
For story building purposes, or general entertainment? Yes. Otherwise? No.

Seems like it would be really distracting.

It's because death fatties like Cassandra Clare/Judith Rumelt only write ethereal, near anorexic heroines and heroes, and fat fangirls only fan characters that are skinny, that we got here. If you're fat, own it, love the skin you're in etc.

So I'm just wondering how this works. It seems there are other people here who have done this sort of thing and can sate my curiosity. How does it work when you're roleplaying someone who looks nothing like you and is even a different sex? Especially when it's yaoi roleplaying or whatever. Do you pretend you're not looking at what you're looking at and that their vagina is an ass or just... I want to know.

I realize that this probably sounds like I just walked out of a time machine from the 19th century or am a robot with no imagination but I am mad curious.

OP, I hope you know for sure that your girlfriend doesn't go to this comm, because I can just imagine what something like that would feel like. You might not see it like this, but by telling you her kink and asking you to play it out with her, she trusted you with something really personal. If this is a firm "no" for you from now on, that's fine. But for god's sake, be nice about it.

I think the request seems a little ridiculous. Assuming the OP likes the way his/her girlfriend is/looks, it's probably not the most attractive idea to try and imagine her as someone else. Honestly, denying that request is more a compliment than anything else. But then, she was in her rights to ask, and the OP was in his/her rights to decline.

Advice from a short, fat girl who does get off on roleplaying a male character: have you asked your girl what specifically turns her crank about this fantasy? She might be amenable to a situation which cuts down on the visual dissonance for you -- ex, real time text roleplay or writing smutty fanfic round robins. You could write back and forth 'IC' earlier in the day, then come home and fuck like rabbits 'OOC'. If that's still a deal breaker for you, you could discuss her finding a fandom roleplay on LJ or IM for her to get that need taken care of -- she can RP with a stranger, and you can reap the benefits of having a grateful, horny girlfriend.
