To all the people last night who were saying the only reason you couldn't be friends with an ex is if one of the parties is immature, a jerk or a drama queen or implying that somebody is stupid for dating somebody they "wouldn't be friends with: I dunno if it's just because the chances of running into self-proclaimed aromantics is so much greater in fandom or what, but can none of you really comprehend a relationship that ended because Person A didn't love Person B, but Person B still loved A?

And you can't understand how being around the person you love but who doesn't love you would be PAINFUL. And we wonder why non-fannish people look at us like emotionally stunted crazy peoople.

Spoilers and death

Sometimes I become interested in something by reading spoiler text about it. And I'm normally okay with knowing what's going to happen in a story, with one exception: character death. If I know who's going to die, then every time the character shows up, all I can think is "s/he's going to die". Then when it happens, I can't properly mourn them. I can't even feel sad. All I get is this weird pseudo-emotion where it's obvious I'm only feeling it because I'm supposed to.

I want to be shocked. I want to cry. But since the only reason I'm interested in the first place is because I highlighted the spoilers, I can't do any of that. All I can think is, "this is the one who is going to die. When this story ends, s/he will be dead."

I wish I could erase that knowledge from my memory without erasing my interest in the material.

I've got so many head-canons for this but the fandom is tiny and dead.

Ugh I need the final book like NOW.

So, just for curiosity's sake, who would be cool with RPF involving themselves if they were famous?

I can totally understand why a lot of people get weirded out by it, but if I ever become famous and there's not lesbian werewolf porn about me, I'm going to be disappointed. I'm aware I'm likely in the minority here, though.

(Sidenote: The one thing that would make me uncomfortable in this hypothetical situation is fic that either a) killed off or hurt an existing rl significant other or b) involved non-celeb family members.)

Fifty Shades of Ripoffs

Ok, so it's no secret that I hate Fifty Shades. The writing's terrible, the characters unlikeable, and the plot-what plot? Besides Ana almost getting herself raped and then Christian coming to her rescue so that he can then rape her all to himself...Yeah. Don't like it.

But what's pissed me off even more is seeing these other books being advertised as being in the same vein as Fifty. Mainly the books by Sylvia Day, 80 Days, Confide In Me, etc (after working in Amazon for Xmas, you remember these names. -_-) On the one hand, I feel irritated at the thought of more abusive crap flying off the shelves and riding off the success of a bad book, and on the other, I am a little intrigued by them. I mean, are all these ripoffs crap? Did they manage to do BDSM and consensual kinky sex right, unlike a certain Icedragon lady? Or is this concept damn near impossible with the current book fad at the moment?

I'm just curious whether anyone's been brave enough to try these books. Basically I want to read a Fifty book that does it right. Oh, and some actually hot sex scenes would be nice too, with as little use of the phrase "Holy Cow!" as possible...

I'm eating dinner at a Spangles right now and am digging all this 50s-60s music. When I was a kid, mom had the car radio permanently stuck on the Oldies station. These days the Oldies station plays 80s music, and that's just messed up.

Ever since getting my writing side back on, I've been making a Rise of The Guardians fanfic in my spare time, left it unfinished for a few days, then came back later to end it only to find out that the writing sucks. I've already discontinued it from pure embarrassment, and that gave me a thought.

So F!S, any stories or fanfics that you once thought were pure gold but later turned out to be crap?

Funny moment today.

I help run a toddler group in a church and the church hall. Today I was playing with 3 kids and the trainset. They were interested in the Christmas tree in the corner, and Ben was upset that there were no presents underneath it. I explained that there weren't any presents because no one lives in the church, and people have their presents at home.

Sally then retorted that I was wrong, God lives in church.

I backpedalled pretty quickly and agreed that, yes, God does live in church, He lives everywhere, but it's not quite the same as how people live in their homes. That was the end of it, or so I thought.

A few minutes later, I'm talking to Henry, when Ben suddenly pipes up

"That man's watering the Christmas tree. It's God!"

Cue three very excited children and a church warden having a giggling fit under a tree.

There are times when I do things I wouldn't ordinarily be able to do. Things that are impossible, but I do it anyway, because I have to. Now I just have to harness that same power, the one where it doesn't matter if I can or can't because I have to. I'm a binge eater. It's a compulsion, an addiction. I can't stop even if I want to. But now it's about more than wanting to. If I ever want my mother to smile at me again, I have to stop eating. And I can't do it to save my life. But damn it, I'm going to do it anyway.
