I've just got back from a movie teater, I've finally seen Cloud Atlas (I know, I know it came out in october, but I live in Italy, the land of "movies that got released late for no apparent reason", bear with me a moment here.) and I was wondering If there was any secret about it in the past FS posts? Epic fail

My main fandom has a really dark and angsty canon source with a Victorian atmosphere. It is also a detective work.
And I decided to write a long and elaborate case!fic for it, focusing on the mystery.

Well, I just finished the first chapter. I wouldn't believe it myself, but it came out even more angsty than the canon source.

The writing is really good, though. The mystery is still there, but I feel like a tremendous amount of angst is inevitable.

Doctor Who and freak cult

"Freak cult" is a concept I came up with when people suddenly started adoring the everlasting shit out of me when we all grew up enough to appreciate nonconformism. Not all people, of course, just one particular category.
I was not a nonconformist. I behaved in a queer way, but I didn't do it on purpose, I just couldn't do it in any other way.
Then some people also called me a psycho, and my own mom wanted me to go to a doctor. Now I don't think I'm mad; I'm as OK as the next man, just behavin' the way I am.

What upsets me is the people who still worship me, because I'm not "like everyone else". Goddamn it, everyone is not like everyone else. When you start doing it, I feel like I'm only worth something because I do things other people consider weird.

That's also the reason DW fandom sometimes creeps me out. They seem to like the Doctor for his unusualness.
It's their right, of course, but I feel sad whenever I come across all those posts about how the Doctor is so wildly different and a special snowflake.

Villainy

I tend to mentally organize things in a rather ridiculous way that works for me but tends not to translate well. So sometimes people who live with me storm up in a huff and demand to know what I've scribbled on a freezer bag. Like this bag of mild cheese.



When confronted with this I shouted "That's the price of living in the presence of greatness my pernicious peons," as I walked backwards out of the kitchen playing this on my kindle.

And then my sister shouted after me the greatest thing anyone has ever shouted at me. "No part of dinner should involve solving a riddle! THIS IS NOT A BATMAN MOVIE! EVEN IF IT WAS YOU WOULD NOT BE THE SCOURGE OF GOTHAM! THIS IS A STUPID PLAN! WHAT... WE'RE GOING TO LIVE IN FEAR OF BITING INTO THE WRONG CHEESE? This doesn't doesn't even reference the right superhero! ...I just wanted a grilled cheese sandwich."

So I came back in the kitchen, said, "Riddle me this..." and stuck out my tongue. Not my greatest comeback, I'll admit.

Then my mom came and gave me the saddest hug I have ever received and shook her head at me.

In retrospect I really should have played Weird Al's "Eat It" during my grand exit.

For those interested the sharp cheese was labelled "every girl crazy about me".

TL;DR: If I were to be a villain I would be "Pure Cheese" and I would foil attempts at making and/or eating grilled cheese sandwiches with lame puns. If my sister were a villain her alter ego would be "you are the worst person ever" and she would beat me to death with a block of cheese.

It's not funny anymore when we are supposed to laugh at the guys and not with them. I identify with them and feel kind of insulted sometimes, to be honest.

Background: I work for a small removals firm, making bookings and managing the vans. As an inner city firm we have some large moves, and frequent smaller jobs.

Today I am trying to call driver #3, I spoke to his customer before the job and he wasn't entirely confident about getting the keys to the new property on time, so I was all prepared for the driver to call me and tell me he was running late.

This is what happened when I answered the phone:


Me: "Hi!"

Him: "Hi."

Me: "Everything alright? Have you got the keys?"

Him: "Yes, everything is ok. He will be coming back with the keys in 20 minutes."

Me: "Excellent! So is there anything I can help you with?"

Him: "Yes, that's actually why I called. What should I do now? My taillift is on fire."

Movies/Shows/Episodes of shows that you think are bad/mediocre but love anyway

So it occurred to me the other day that my favorite Doctor Who episode of all time is...Smith and Jones. Yup. Not one of those episodes that I think are super-duper amazing. A totally unremarkable, bog-standard, by-the-numbers, cliched episode with unthreatening villains, little to no emotional torque, no genuine suspense, no creativity to speak of, a goofy contrived climax, and whose active events consist of a bunch of running around.

In fact, part of the reason I love it so is BECAUSE it's unremarkable. It's safe, in a way. It doesn't scare me, it doesn't make me think, it doesn't make me cry, it doesn't make my heart flutter with wonder or emotion, it doesn't leave me shaken, it's not exhausting or electrifying. I just sit back and enjoy the humor and the action and the fun personalities.

So, does anyone have experiences like this? You have a show or an episode of a show or a movie that you know full well is pretty blah, but adore it to pieces anyway; and not because you see something really deep and awesome hidden in it, but you just love it anyway?

Actually skillful and intelligent shippy vids? Do they exist?

So, the main reason I hate the vast majority of shipping fanvids is because they're ridiculously sappy and overwrought and consist of a bunch of visually uninteresting, blandly-edited scenes of the couple kissing/touching/gazing into each other's eyes while some melodramatic Cascada crap plays in the background. Almost all the really good, skillful fanvids I've seen are non-shippy.

Which got me wondering if people here had recs for any fanvids that BOTH a) are about shipping a specific couple and b) are actually creative and show talent and thought. Any recs?

 So, I've been assigned to a Friday shift at my job, starting at 3:30. I had been trying to avoid shifts like that on the weekdays, but unfortunately I cannot get out of it. I can post links to the pictures from my phone, though, which leads me to a question for you all!

So Congress wants to look into video games (YET AGAIN!!!) as the cause of the fucking massacres that have been happening lately. VIDEO GAMES HAVE BEEN PROVEN NOT TO MAKE PEOPLE MORE VIOLENT!!! How many fucking studies do we need to do for this to make stupid politicians see that they have nothing to with anything? I get that it's scary "new" technology that's only been out since the fucking 70's, but holy shit, stop with it. We get it, most of you are old and probably hate these newfangled gadgets like smart phones, TVs, and cars. In that case, maybe you should just stay home and let younger people who are hip with this shit have your seats since they're actually used to video games and don't think they're corrupting America's youth and 20-somthings.

It doesn't help that a lot of people treat me like I should have been over it the next day. My dog was my best friend. I lost a part of myself. He was a person to me. People are so unsupportive and flippant about my loss.

Nothing makes me feel better anymore. I feel so alone. I don't sleep, I barley eat. It's getting harder to go out and act like I'm fine, and I feel like nobody cares. I want to scream.
