alternatively, character types/tropes you hate only under certain conditions. for example, if a character is really self-absorbed/annoying/whatever, does your opinion on them change depending on whether the character is intentionally written that way?

I'll like most characters so long as they're self aware and author awareness kind of goes hand in hand with that... or if the point or a major side effect of their character arc is to make them aware of their flaws.

I tend to dislike the ones that aren't, especially the characters who are convinced they're the good guys or doing good while being massive hypocrites.

The know-it-all. I cannot stand that trope in canon or fanfic.

I dislike really obnoxious characters that you're supposed to find likable or quirky, but I sometimes like them if they're written as antagonists and if other characters besides the protagonists don't inexplicably find them likable. One example I can think of at the moment is Councilman Jeremy Jamm from Parks and Rec. The dude is a total dick who is gross to the max, but I actually like him as a character. Even though he manages to swindle people into rallying against Leslie with him, it doesn't seem like many people genuinely like him as a person which is good because I hate it when characters are total douchebags and still manage to be popular/well-liked. I think I also like him just because I pity him a bit because he's clearly a pretty lonely dude who is desperate for companionship (to the point where he seems to genuinely consider Leslie one of his best friends even though he does nothing but antagonize her and she is understandably disgusted by him). I know a lot of people didn't like his character, but I thought he was kind of fun

Bland love interest who obviously exists because the writer thinks there NEEDS to be a love interest.

Genki Girl female characters and Keet male characters. They're all just awful imo (to varying degrees of course, but still awful. Even characters like Kaylee from Firefly really grate on me, even though she's a pretty mild example of the trope and lacks the constant, manic excitement that many Genki Girl characters have). My least favorite character that comes to mind right now who fits into one of these categories is probably Shuichi from Gravitation (he's actually the picture on the Keet trope homepage, haha). He annoyed the crap out of me. No wonder Yuki couldn't stand him most of the time

I am not even bothered by Tumblr and twitters response anymore. What really fucking annoys me is the actual news agencies. Including headlines like "white police officer shoots unarmed black teen."

It is 1:00 AM in continental Western Europe and I already got my presents.

My mom bought me Wizard's first rule because she remembered I liked fantasy. However I remember how disliked this is and how it's the fantasy series in which chickens are evil incarnate or some shit, so I don't want to read it. (I don't want to read period these days but that's another story). I feel bad because I didn't say I wanted anything and they just wanted me to have something under the Christmas tree :(.

First World Problems

I marathoned the first season of Korra last night, and downloaded the second only to realize that the file for the third ep. is corrupted somehow and just keeps bugging out after 23 seconds when I try to play it on VLC.

Just how bad a profanity is "tsa"? When things go terribly for characters in kids' shows, they go "tsa," but when things go terribly for characters in gritty crime dramas, they go "tsa, tsa, tsa!" I've seen subtitlers substitute everything from "Damn! to "Fuck!"
