A piece of media that is well-presented, well-written, well-acted, everybody loves it...and you're just not that into it.

Breaking Bad

I'm a writer. I knew it was good writing. I knew the characters were good, the cinematography was great, the acting was great...but I couldn't get into it. I just found it hard to watch. Maybe it was the setting? I never even finished it and I have no impulse to.

Outlander. I just found it dull. I knew there was some stuff coming later that I would probably enjoy, and the very first sex scene was hot. But I didn't care for any of the characters and was just hopelessly bored. So I just gave up after the first couple of episodes.

Spartacus. A show that is actually equal opportunity about the nudity. I just found it not very interesting and I'm not sure why. But then again, I can think of a show set in Roman times that I've actually liked for some reason even though I love mythology and also movies set back then.

I'd really appreciate any positive thoughts you guys could send my way. My dad was admitted to the hospital again. He's got bacterial pneumonia. And it may be antibiotic resistant considering they've tried four different antibiotics. He's on a respirator right now. I'm really scared.

What makes a person charming? Is it different for a man or a woman?

Usually now I see it given to male characters with traits I don't care for (masculinity, arrogance, "dominant" behavior). In some older works, I've seen it given to characters with traits I find more appealing. Maybe it's subjective, like beauty - I'm not "charmed" by the first type, but some people are.

So how would you define it?

Terminator Genisys

Maybe it's just the theater-high talking but, stupid name notwithstanding, Terminator Genisys finally feels like a worthy sequel to T2. I don't necessarily think it's *better* than T2 but I did find it quite good and fitting for the climate of movies being made today.

Anyone else seen it yet? Expect spoilers in this thread, should it take off.

NuBSG.

It probably doesn't help that i'm not American, and that I didn't come to it until much later in the decade from when it originally aired, but I found the early, clearly 9/11 hysteria inspired, stuff tiresome and drama-less, and the later stuff (which is when I presume the 9/11 hysteria had worn thin) to be just bad science fiction. Yeah, it was a different flavor of bad SF than usual, but still bad SF.

NuBSG seems to be a very clear warning to wannabe showrunners that it isn't enough to just avert the usual television Science Fiction tropes, you have to put something else in there instead. Yeah, I'm sure the command point of a starship doesn't need a window nor be called a bridge, but just not putting that stuff in should not be enough to get the kind of overhyped plaudits that NuBSG did. As for a universe with no aliens in it? Meh, Red Dwarf has always done that better too.

Then there is the overuse of shaky cam and the dramatic shaky zooming in on faces just before something dramatic happens, and the "slow burn" which means you can watch the first five minutes and closing five minutes of each show and get the entire story for the episode and season because the remainder is just shots of people muttering and wandering around hallways to pad it out until the cliffhanger. Never have I seen such a dull show.
