What are some songs you fi d yourself listening to or thinking about all the time recently?

For me, it's got to be Battle Scars by Lupe Fiasco and Guy Sebastian. It's just so catchy and I love it; I just always have to pretend it's something deeper than a run of the mill breakup song, otherwise I get irrationally offended at the metaphor.

Goosebumps and the like

I just re-read a Goosebumps book for the first time in years. I read them a lot as a kid, but they aren't the kind of thing that holds up well as an adult.

It was called "Deep Trouble" and was about sea monsters and mermaids.

Mostly I read it because it's summer, and I felt like reading something beach-y and I found it in a "little free library." I knew I'd read it as a kid, but couldn't remember what it was about.

Do you ever go back and reread dumb kids' books like this?

And can you recommend any other books or movies or anything having to do with sea monsters/mer-people/lagoon creatures?

The Archie comic secret got me thinking about the melodramatic clusterfuck that's the new series, which reminded me of the new Harry Potter play AND the adult Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants book. Lots and lots of contrived stuff. (Well, okay, I don't know that's definitely the case for Cursed Child, but based on the spoilers I've heard it pretty much is.)

In any case, what are some sequels/reboots that actually work? Whether they're more humorous, dramatic but not overtly so...

What do you think about fans (not official parties) dubbing over fancomics, fanfiction, or canon source material? Is your opinion different when it's a language dub different from the original language (japanese anime into english, american cartoon into spanish, etc.)?

Is anyone here really good at The Sims 3? I have done some Googling and cannot find the answer to this.

I have a sim with the Surrounded By Family lifetime wish. He has two kids and is married. Earlier I had him marry his wife, and they had a kid together (he started with already one kid) and everything worked normal. I switched to another household, played for a while, switched back. Now, he and his wife won't have sex. The option simply isn't there. They will flirt, hold hands, make out, and do all the other romantic stuff, including finding each other Extremely Irresistible. They're married, faithful, not angry with each other, have had sex before...not sure what I am missing here. They are in bed, cuddling/making out and very happy, but the "WooHoo" or "Try for Baby" dialogue just isn't appearing.

Their relationship bar dropped a lot when I was not playing their house, but it's impossible to see how they feel about each other in more absolute terms because the spouse designators cover up the area where "friend"/"good friend"/etc. usually go on the relationship panel. Could this be the only thing - that they aren't as good of "friends" as before? My general understanding of game mechanics seems to indicate that friendship isn't a prerequisite for sex, and none of the guides or forum posts I've read mention this, either.

Any ideas? I really like this family and want this guy to get his lifetime wish, but the clock is ticking. :(

to (romantically) love someone without sex. Or at least not as much as someone who's not asexual would.

I'm asexual and I try to convince myself that maybe I can find another asexual some day (I've tried dating non asexuals and I know it can work for some people but not for me). But part of me thinks even if I did it wouldn't be good enough. It's like sex is some magic thing to make a relationship more valid or make people love each other more.

I try to tell myself that's not true and it's just as possible for people to love each other without having sex but I don't think I really believe it. I don't know if it's just because sex=love is what's been ingrained in my head my whole life or what.

Does anyone truly believe it's actually possible?

I was thinking recently about a certain rather frustrating thing that I remember cropping up in Lord of the Rings fanfic, and am pretty sure happens in several other fandoms too:

Back in the post-movie-trilogy boom, there was a LOT of LOTR fanfic based on the Rivendell elves. Oddly, though, a lot of the really good, well-written fanfic, even the stuff set back in the time period near the founding of Rivendell, seemed to gloss over the implications of the situation: that it was not always a well-run peaceful haven, that Elrond first set up Rivendell as an emergency refugee camp populated by starving, homeless, penniless widows, widowers, and orphans fleeing the ruin and massacre of Hollin and the destruction of their centuries-old homes and works. Meaning that a huge number of these elves were probably suffering from extreme PTSD, depression, anxiety, and grief and were probably all pretty damn fucked up to the point where their mental health would interfere severely with their lives.

On the other hand, the terrible crap teenage fanfic just wallowed in glorious loads and loads of this stuff. They didn't write it WELL - it was all just mostly used as cheap fodder for romantic drama and angst for the pairing at hand - but they generally really went to town in portraying the various traumas in detail and showing how deeply the situation affected the characters and messed up their lives and minds. And...I always wished there was more fic that had the best of both worlds - actually well written and not ridiculous and melodramatic, but treating the weight and severity of the elves' struggles with their issues and memories as a central, make-or-break concern, not some minor subplot of some character's inner turmoil.

And I was wondering...do you guys have examples of this sort of thing happening in other fandoms? Where the only time a really cool, interesting, appealing idea or trope or element of the canon comes up is in the shitty fanfic, instead of the good fanfic?

Vice-presidential law question (US)

I know the VP has the same requirements as the president, aka being 35 or older, born in the US, etc., etc. But does that also include the arguably separate requirement of "hasn't already served two terms as president"? Like, could a candidate theoretically pick a two-time former president as their running mate with no issue? Is there any law written down that addresses that?

Also, is there a limit on how long/how much someone can be vice-president? Can one president have the same VP for eight years, then the next president picks them as their own VP? It'd probably be weird, but would it be allowed?
