I do for one meal almost every day, but that's cause you can do it cheap in my area and it's hard to cook for one (unless I just wanna eat sandwiches all day, lol) When I was a kid we would eat out maybe 2-3 times a month, and that was usually fast food.

How to be a good friend while dealing with a mental illness

I see a lot of articles and people discussing how you can be a better friend to somebody who has a mental illness. Recently I've been thinking about how I, someone who has anxiety problems and some mild depression, can be a better friend. My friends are great and I want to treat them the best I can!

One thing I thought of was that it's important you tell your friend if there are certain things that bother you so they are aware of it. Does anybody else have any ideas on how to be a better friend while dealing with a mental illness? Or just things that make a good and strong friendship in general.

When people not in fandom ask you about fandom things

I don't know about you, but I'm always way too amused when my SO talks about fandom things with me because he's not in fandom and kind of regards as something both interesting and something stupid and terrible.

I was reading him a fic the other day and he we so surprised that it was good. Like, when I tell you the fic I'm reading is 200k words, do you think I spend several hours reading something bad?

He knows enough about how fandom works to ask what the portmanteau for Arthur/Melin was. I didn't know know at the time, so he's decided to call the ship Arthlin, though I told him later it's (lamentably) Merthur.

It's stupid to find this so hilarious, but whatever. Tell me tales of your non-fandom buddies talking to you about fandom things.

Salary question

So I'm going to get paid for my work as a researcher pretty soon. The problem is, I'm pretty sure I'll be treated an an independent contractor, so rather than getting a fixed per-hour salary, I'll be getting a fixed fee for my services.

In the hopes that I might have some negotiating power with this, I'm trying to figure out how much I ought to get.

Does anybody have any good idea about the general range of salaries commensurate with duties, experience, and education for a researcher?

Phobias and relationships

This is just something I've worried about before.

I have a somewhat severe phobia of being strangled or choked. However, I've seen a few articles and comments that talk about choking someone during sex, and I didn't really get the impression that they were seeing it as a consensual BDSM thing. The choking reference was usually in a kind of offhand way - like, "she's the kind of girl you would choke during sex!" (just based on the girl's looks, with no reference to whether or not she gets any say in whether or not she gets choked). And another article suggested choking (and other things) if you just want to have casual sex, like if you don't hurt the woman during sex, she'll think you have agreed to be in a relationship, even if you actually agreed only to have sex.

It makes me afraid that if I have sex with a guy, he'll assume he can do this even if I tell him not to. Is it common to just do BDSM type things to people without asking them if it's okay? Do a lot of people think that once you've consented to sex, you've consented to ANY sexual thing, and they don't have to respect this person's wishes to not do a certain thing?

Has anyone else been put off of relationships/sex by phobias?

I texted him again this week asking if he still wanted to catch up for coffee. No reply.

I'm a bit confused, because from the tone of his texts, it seemed like he wanted to meet up again. Should I assume he just doesn't want to see me?
