Drawing tips?

I bought a sketch pad and some pencils/colouring pencils the other day, on a whim.

Problem is, I'm not exactly what you would call "good" at drawing things. The one person I do know online who is good at drawing mostly draws griffons and MLP stuff (which is cool, but really not what I'm into).

Anyone got any tips for learning how to draw and not produce scribbles equivalent to those of a nursery school kid?

Hi everyone, sorry I don't have anything today, the last week and a half have been really stressful when it comes to school. I'm hoping things will settle down soon, though. ♥

What are the weird, little things that you absolutely love?

Either in fic/canon or IRL. The kind of things you could never request or really look for, because they're so specific.

Me: a cappella singing over scenes where the actual noises are muted. For example, the scene in the dark knight trailer at the stadium, or the scene from the walking dead where Beth is singing in the prison. It happens a lot in certain kinds of trailers, and I have no idea why, but I adore it. (Side note: this cover made me think of this, because I would love to see it over some kind of dark, horrible scenes in a movie https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=M_PtnvVQhqA)
Also, for fic, scenes where an insecure character overhears and misinterprets something their love interest says.

What are fan interpretations of characters you think are off, and it annoys you when you see them? (GC, what better place to rant about fandom!)
It annoys me whenever I see Aziraphale interpreted as moe, incredibly innocent and sweet, and needing protection from Crowley. Do people forget that he's supposed to be a bit of a bastard, and was a relatively higher ranking angel who carried a sword?

Please help me F!S, you're my only source of information when Google and Wikipedia fail me and I dare not ask little_details.

I have this character born in England in 1990 and a plot-bunny involving him dressing up for a holiday as a child. (Something that would be somewhat important, not just any dress-up play.)

I'm aware the dressing-up traditions there must be different from the "carnavals" I'm familiar with; so far I've only found information about Ireland and Scotland today, and I sort-of know of North America through depictions in fictions. Please tell me, what did British children do for Halloween during the 90ties?
And/or were there any other special occasions for children to dress up?
