Kitchens and whatnot

Ugh, there's a leak under my kitchen sink. And it seems to be coming from the garbage disposal area (which I never use, but the drain I use flows through it), which means I'm not comfortable just learning something and fixing it myself.

Which means now I have to call my landlord and get the maintenance guy out here, which means I have to step up my cleaning efforts so I don't look like such a grossy gross pig person, which is hard to do when MY SINK IS LEAKING. I predict a lot of dishes sitting in the oven.

just scrape/wipe the food residues off the dishes, then get a bucket of water from the bathtub or something and wash off the dishes in that. i think you could flush the water from the bucket when you're done. rinse everything by dipping it into another bucket and stack them in the drainer.

I feel the exact same way -- there's gonna be some big radiator repair/switch going on soon where I live, and I'm going to pieces about how messy my whole apartment is, will I manage to clean up in time, etc. However! I've worked in that position myself, and you know what? I didn't give a damn. As long as no one is getting hurt due to your messiness (like fishes dying in an uncleaned aquarium or something), it was fine.

Also? Be nice to them! Don't stand around staring as if you're afraid they'll steal something. Instead, offer them something to drink or maybe give them a bag of homemade cookies for their break. People who treated me and my co-workers like that got free work in return.

Are you a tea/coffee/chocolate snob?

What is something you enjoyed doing,but no longer do?

So here I am sorting out same clothes, and trying on outfits (mostly to see what still fits since I lost weight, what goes together, and what it more suitable now it's unseasonably chilly).

I used to LOVE doing that - trying on outfits, getting the perfect one, down to matching jewelry.

Now...it just feel like a chore. I mean, I still like looking nice and well-dressed, but I no longer enjoy the process.

F!S, is there anything you used to enjoy but now no longer do - fandom related or just in general?

so i got rejected by my dream company without even getting an interview. i had someone working there in a high position forward my application and it was only and internship and they still rejected me.

and now i've fallen into this super deep pit of shitty depression and the worst part is that these weeks were my finals. i actually didn't manage to study for them at all and didn't do any of my essays so i skipped out on an exam today hoping that i'll be able to retake it. i'll pass even if i don't, but my prof is kinda super important in the industry and i'm stressing out so much. worst part is if i retake that exam i'm still not sure if i could pass it because it's a fucking horrible topic that i just can't wrap my head around and i feel like i SHOULD because it's part of my fucking job to know those things.

ugh.

and tomorrow is our end of semester party and i just don't feel ready to leave school yet and go out and work but worst of all APPLY because i'm scared shitless of application tests and interviews and all that shit and i don't want to work anywhere else but at that company, but i know if i want to have a chance there i have to gain work experience or something and that's a shitty mindset to bring to an application too. the other company that might take me and that seems interesting does work which i'm not a big fan of and they're in a different city and hiring long-term so i'm not sure how shitty it would be to apply there and then piss off the moment i get a chance at my dream company. the industry is pretty tight knit and all.

and today the guy who forwarded my application encouraged me to send it again "beginning next year" and i'm not sure if i should take that seriously or if he's just saying that, because he's just a nice guy and very encouraging to people in general.

So I'm trying to develop thirteen different amoral personalities. Well, they're kinda developing on their own as I write the characters, but how well it works is limited to how good a writer I am. Right now I have a sadistic Bond villain wannabe and a guy who might be kind of not terrible if he didn't constantly have his head in the sand. Waiting on reader feedback to see if I'm pulling it off or if they're coming out totally flat.

Either way, eleven to go, and if I'm shit now, I'll be better someday.

Anyone else seen it? What are your thoughts?

Mine are mostly that a) I'm going to be looking up a lot of the "man these censors are dumb as rocks" movies they grabbed clips from (Red River, Ben-Hur, etc, which I'm too young to have seen), and b) I kind of wish they'd do an updated or "sequel" version, because it seems to me that depictions of gay people in movies have changed since 1995, in that in some respects, they've gone back to the subtext-laden "but it's not gay, they're talking about guns!" deal of the Hays era, but there's more of a popular push for open representation (of lots of groups, but QUILTBAG people are more visible, or more in the public eye, anyway).

How do you define passive aggressive?

Inspired by a recent situation in which I was talking about work, and someone commented that it sounded like one of my bosses and one of my coworkers were being passive-aggressive with me. That confused the hell out of me because I always thought they were perfectly nice - the boss is just as introverted and socially awkward as I am and kind of a perfectionist at times, and as such corrects us on smaller details frequently (and given that we're a major tourist destination, it's pretty justifiable, too). Meanwhile, one of my coworkers has made a few mistakes that led to both of us getting written up, but seeing as those mistakes were all in the same 'area' (namely mixing up times for things), I never saw it as any kind of attempt to sabotage me - just someone who doesn't do well with clocks when they're in a rush or under pressure (same way I don't always do well with small talk with customers, we all have our weak points).

I was thinking about that, ended up being reminded of an old thread in fandom way, way back, where someone mentioned having replied to an annoying review with a very passive-aggressive reply, but when I looked at it, it seemed perfectly nice to me - which surprised the person who left it, as they were definitely being "maliciously polite".

I've also had incidents in the past where people would say that someone was being passive-aggressive to me, when I thought they were being perfectly nice. Similarly, I've been called passive-aggressive in situations where I was just being a little overly-formal but otherwise polite, both in real life and online. I don't do passive-aggressive (I just do aggressive-aggressive), so this always confuses the hell out of me.

What exactly is passive-aggressive, and why bother doing it if you intend for both you and the 'receiving' party to know that there is malicious intent on your part? How do you tell it apart from being polite or formal or whatever? Because apparently I don't know how to tell apart passive-aggressive for formal/polite, unless "any form of criticism or negative comment is passive-aggressive", which...how do you criticize someone without being passive-aggressive, if you mean well/just have to correct them as part of a related duty or whatever (i.e. work, editing, etc.)?

I am so confused, right now.

How often do you shampoo/condition your hair?

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I want to know how often everyone here washes their hair? Lately, I've been hearing people say that they only wash their hair once a week, some wash it like every 10 days.

I've also heard of people who don't use shampoo but instead apple cider vinegar? Does anyone do that? If so, how was the process and how do you like your hair?

I used to wash my hair every 2-3 days, but I've pushed it back to 3-4 days now. Any longer and my hair is too greasy, and every day shampooing either dries my hair or makes me scalp over produce oil.

I'm also kinda in between brands right now. I use Garnier's Sleek and Shine Shampoo (mostly for the scent; don't think the shampoo does anything much to my hair) and Organix's Cherry Blossom Ginseng Conditioner. The conditioner really leaves my hair soft and smelling good. But Organix can be pretty costly at times. =(

Finding it hard to identify with people/characters of a different sexual orientation?

Whenever I'm watching or reading something with people in an opposite sex relationship (or even with real people), I have a hard time identifying with them, at least unless I make a specific effort to. My initial impression is usually that their relationship is just superficial/not real/they don't really love each other like my girlfriend and I do. I have to sort of mentally pretend that one of them is the other sex (not literally but I don't quite know how to explain it) to 'get it' that even though the situation is different, their feelings are the same. And I don't have this problem with gay guys, just straight people. In a way I guess it's like the idea of having feelings for someone of the opposite sex is so entirely foreign to me that I almost find it hard to comprehend? I'm not totally sure how to explain but hopefully this makes some sense.

Has anyone else ever felt like this? I feel like it makes me a bad person but I don't know how to stop.

I have searched around online but can't seem to find a solution (maybe I am using the wrong keywords?).

My internet internet drops randomly. And the only way to make my computer reconnect is to restart it. I don't think it is the modem because my cell phone and Kindle still have a connection.

but I have no idea what to look at to see what the problem is on my computer. I am on WIFI, Windows 7, and have an ATT router.

Why has it be so slow lately here?

Health insurance question?

In the US, is there a general rule on if you are on someone's health insurance plan, can that person see what you do with their insurance? If there isn't a rule, is that something I could contact my insurance provider to find out? I am in college and am considering going to a psychologist for services not provided by the school's counselors, but I very much don't want my father (whose plan I am on obviously) finding that out. :/
